No Security Clearance Required about security clearance definitions Position Description This position will provide technical leadership for large-scale aircraft manufacturing and fabrication prototypes necessary to enable future airplane production systems. The individual in this position will be expected to architect and demonstrate real time dynamic aircraft manufacturing and aircraft part fabrication processes and infrastructure, as well as process control and material handling solutions to Boeing's most challenging and valuable production system issues. The integrated nature of these development and prototyping efforts requires thorough understanding of Industrial Monitoring and Control Systems, Human-Machine Interfaces, large-scale production and fabrication automation architectures, mechanisms and algorithms, Statistical Process Control and a demonstrated capacity to quickly develop operational understanding of additional areas as needed. The pace of these efforts will require the individual in this position to personally develop automated and robotic aircraft manufacturing and fabrication technical solutions while simultaneously providing strong technical leadership to others engaged in the effort. Particular areas of interest include distributed control systems, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, human-machine interfaces, multi-machine automation and control, automated dynamic delivery of work instructions and materials, real-time decision making with multi-sensory network inputs, and real-time visioning and inspection systems. Competencies General + Collaboration Works effectively and cooperatively with fellow employees, peers from other teams and/or parts of the organization and occasionally external customers; establishes and maintains good working relationships by actively involving others and helping them feel valued, appreciated, and included in discussions. Places higher priority on team and/or organization goals than on own goals. Keeps the audience engaged through use of techniques such as analogies, illustrations, humor, an appealing style, body language, and voice inflection. Frames the message in line with audience experience, background, and expectations; uses terms, examples, and analogies that are meaningful to the audience. Seeks input from audience; checks understanding; presents message in different ways to enhance understanding. Uses syntax, pace, volume, diction, and mechanics appropriate to the media being used. Accurately interprets messages from others and responds appropriately. + Decision Making Recognizes a wide range of potentially difficult issues, problems, or opportunities in own work group, across the organization and occasionally with external customers; determines whether action is needed. Identifies the need for and collects information to better understand difficult issues, problems, and opportunities. Integrates information from a wide variety of sources; detects trends, associations, and cause-effect relationships; creates relevant options for addressing difficult problems/opportunities and achieving desired outcomes. Formulates and/or makes recommendations for decision criteria based on issue complexity; evaluates options by considering implications and consequences; chooses an effective option. Implements decisions or initiates action within a reasonable time. Includes fellow work group members, employees across the organization, and occasionally external customers in the decision-making process as warranted to obtain good information, make the most appropriate decisions, and ensure buy-in and understanding of the resulting decisions. + Innovation Consistently identifies implicit assumptions in the way problems or situations are defined or presented. Sees alternative ways to view or define problems; is not constrained by the thoughts or approaches of work group members, interorganizational employees or external customers. Draws upon multiple and diverse sources (individuals, disciplines, bodies of knowledge) for ideas and inspiration. Combines complex ideas in unique ways or makes connections between disparate ideas; explores different lines of thought. Views situations from multiple perspectives; brainstorms multiple approaches/solutions; examines numerous potential solutions and evaluates each before accepting any. Targets important areas for innovation and develops solutions that address meaningful issues in own work areas and thought the organization. + Strategic Decision Making Identifies and fills gaps in information required to understand strategic issues. Organizes information and data to identify/explain problems and causes; compares and combines information to identify underlying issues. Generates and considers options for actions to achieve a long-range goal or vision of organization; develops decision criteria considering factors such as cost, benefits, risks, and timing; presents recommendation on the strategy most likely to succeed. Identifies the key tasks and resources needed to achieve objectives. Provides support to ensure that strategies are carried out.
