BEHAVIORAL HEALTH STUDENT SUPPORT SPECIALIST

General Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Behavioral Health Clinical Supervisor, provides school based prevention, education and intervention support services to students in Special Education. Participates in multi-disciplinary team with students and key supportive members. Supports physical and emotional health to ensure home and school success, while providing additional student and family support resources and direct community connections within the least restrictive environment.

Specific Activities

Provides case management for students and families, to include interviewing, assessment, solution seeking, goal setting, referral and advocacy, life skills training, and family building, in a culturally sensitive and respectful manner to address issues that interfere in their child’s school success.

  • Educates families on the Special Education process.
  • Provides psycho-educational groups and support to students and families.
  •  Identifies student and family strengths that can be applied to overcoming identified family and school challenges.
  • Assists, guides, and motivates students to reach goals and contract objectives as defined in the Student Case Plan.
  • Develops and maintains positive professional relationships with schools, community contacts, and law enforcement.
  • Develops and maintains community based resource linkages.
  • Responds to crisis situations by contacting the appropriate response team and Behavioral Health Professional.
  • Conducts classroom, playground, community, home, and other appropriate observations.
  • Conducts Parent Classes, including Parenting Difficult Teens, for parents of youth aged from 0-5; 6-12 years and teens aged 13 and over
  • , to address issues that interfere in their child’s school success.

  • Provides support, advocacy, and program referrals for student and family.
  • Works supportively and coordinates service delivery with Behavioral Health Clinician.
  • Attends and participates in program meetings, group supervision, retreats, trainings, and other collaborative activities as necessary and required by the program and contract objectives.
  • Maintains detailed case files, and documented data and statistics, as required by program and contract compliance.
  • Performs outreach activities within the School District and community as designated in contract objectives.
  • Provides case management services via school, home visits and school community settings, during the day and evening.
  • Facilitates client access to Lifeline and community services.
  • Takes direction from Behavioral Health Clinician to guide student support services.
  • Participates in weekly individual and group supervision.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    Requirements

    . Provide services within the boundaries of their professional training and within the limits and rules of their contract. Possess a good understanding of human development, mental health, and Special Education. Knowledge of child and family development, parenting and community resources. Strong skills in interviewing, rapport building, assessment, goal setting, and motivating youth and families. Ability to work independently as well as cooperatively with other program and agency staff. Ability to focus on multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Must have minimum experience of 2 year as a Case Manager and a BA in Social Work or equivalent field.

    Compensation

    FT – Exempt position $16.00/hr + bilingual pay. Full paid benefits according to the personnel policy. EOE
