Job Summary
The incumbent in this position will serve as the initial point of contact for benefits information (in-person, by telephone, by written correspondence) in a very busy Human Resources environment. This position interacts with a very diverse population. The incumbent will interact with participants who may be in distress and will need an empathetic, calm, listener and determine the best manner in which to respond to the participant/employee and the situation. The incumbent must maintain excellent relationships with other staff members, other University of San Francisco departments and with benefits vendors. Poor or inadequate communication may result in unnecessary and unproductive conflict, and potential loss of benefits.

Job Responsibilities
Ability to conduct benefits orientations and face-to-face meetings at least weekly. Have a highly visible role as project coordinator for benefit projects including open enrollment including the benefits fair, and preparation of material for collective bargaining discussions.

Receives and reviews enrollment applications for new hires, newly eligible for benefits as result of a benefits eligibility status change, and qualifying events. Responsible for processing the enrollments in compliance with university policy and city, state, and federal regulations. Complete the data entry in the Human Resources Information System (Banner) and each vendor eligibility system prior to scanning the documents. Responsible for sorting all incoming benefits mail (including campus mail) and distributing the same to the appropriate individuals Responsible for assisting benefits specialists in all areas including preparation of materials for collective bargaining.

The position is responsible for recording all inquiries and monitoring the status of each issue until it is resolved. This position will categorize the issues and report the incidents and types on a monthly basis.

Minimum Requirements
B.S./B.A. in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field is preferred. An experience equivalency can be substituted for degree. The minimum requirements for this position will be 3 years of progressively responsible experience in human resources, health administration, benefits administration background, flexibility with sound judgment.

Must have a demonstrated attention to detail, ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Must be able to prioritize important tasks and multi-task. Must have excellent people skills with strong customer orientation. Must be able to take initiative and work with ambiguity. Must have good decision making skills. Able to learn and use Human Resources Information System (HRIS) Banner database system.

• Possess strong organizational skills with the ability to respond to multiple project requirements and deadlines.
• Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral manner; good presentation skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with a diverse group of individuals.
• Ability to work well under deadlines and pressure.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, faculty, staff and participants.
• Ability to maintain confidentially.
