SUMMARY (BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB)
Under the direction of the Radiologist, the CT Technologist will perform total body imaging for neonatal, pediatric, and adult patients within various body planes. These duties are will result in the production of quality images for diagnostic interpretation. The technologist will effectively utilize all imaging capabilities of the CT scanner and associated equipment and technology. The CT technologist will be responsible for maintaining the optimal level of patient care. The technologist will assist in the optimization of patient flow and study throughput.

SUMMARY (ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES)

1. Prepares patients for procedures by performing medical assessment of mental and physical evaluation of lab values, confirming patient identification by verbal communication and ID band if applicable.

2. Operates CT scanner according to hospital protocol and manufacturer's recommendations.

3. Assists physician with special procedures i.e., biopsy's, abscess drains.

4. Consults with radiologist and/or other physicians regarding examinations as necessary.

5. Follows all physician orders and order requisitions.

6. Describes nature and time requirements of requested examinations to patient.

7. Greets and introduces self to patient.

8. Practices sterile technique and prevents cross contamination to patients and instruments.

9. Prepares and/or administers contrast media i.e., orally, IV, rectally. (CT technologists' medication administration scope of practice is limited to the administration of contrast agents only).

10. Starts IV's when needed.

11. Provides patient, doctor and staff with proper examination preparation.

12. Provides radiation protection to patient, staff, and self-according to prescribed safety standards.

13. Recognizes emergency situations, initiates code procedures, and administers first aid/CPR as needed.

14. Records patient history, unusual conditions/limitations and other vital information.

15. Restocks and maintains assigned work station/equipment in an orderly fashion.

16. Schedules patients in section and coordinates scheduling with other departments to ensure patient flow.

17. Addresses patient and medical staff complaints.

18. Assumes charge position as required in the absence of supervisory personnel.

19. Demonstrates correct and adequate anatomic positioning skills.

20. Employee is proficient at and practices retrieval and loading of images, and resolution of
"exceptions" in the PACS system.

21. Archives images to system EOD and PACS system; and assures that all images are archived at the end of each shift

22. Completes all paperwork where applicable. Tracks patients in Novius System from enter department to leave department.

23. Attends regularly scheduled department meetings i.e., staff, in-service, training.

24. Trains Radiologic Technology students.

25. Identifies problems and communicates to immediate supervisor; offer solutions as appropriate.

26. Keeps room/work station neat and orderly.

27. Demonstrates complete working knowledge of all equipment within the department.

28. Utilizes hospital/departmental communications, telephone and paging systems appropriately.

29. Performs other duties as requested.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Must be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist and have at least one year experience as a Registered Technologist. Required to remain a member in good standing of the ARRT by maintenance of CE credits and yearly renewal of licensed and CPR certification. Physical requirements are minimal with occasional standing, walking, or stooping; minimal lifting or physical exertion. Requires close, distance, and color vision; the ability to talk, hear and manual dexterity. The work environment involves occasional exposure to blood borne pathogens and infectious diseases. The noise level is moderate.
