Leading Principle Trading Firm seeks an experienced, reliable and mature Data Center Engineer to take care of their East Coast Data Centers in New Jersey, New York and DC. They have offices in Chicago, New York and London employing over 450 people from different disciplines and backgrounds. Unlike hedge funds, brokerage firms and banks, they have no investors, clients or customers. They trade actively in a wide range of asset classes both domestically and internationally.
Role Description
Leading Principle Trading Firm seeks an experienced, reliable and mature Data Center Engineer to assist with the architecture and operations of their East Coast data centers which are throughout New Jersey, New York city and Washington D.C. This role will require frequent “day trip” travel to the data centers and you will be based from home.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Maintain integrity of global data centers and co-location facilities
- Assist with all aspects of Data Center work, including server, networking, and optical equipment installation
- Data center physical layer infrastructure design and installation, including specification of products, budget creation, and management of construction of network infrastructure cabling
- Troubleshoot and test physical layer infrastructure using cable test equipment, interpret test results, and make recommendations for all data center physical layer infrastructure including but not limited to fiber optic, Category 6A copper cable, coaxial cable, dark fiber, Gigabit Ethernet carrier circuits, T1, and DS3
- Support various blade, server, and SAN systems
- Support network monitoring devices and taps
- Support GPS and time source systems
- Monitor environmental conditions of all data centers and make recommendations to resolve environmental issues
- Work on multiple projects and incidents with various priorities
Qualifications Experience:
- 5+ years hands-on data center engineering experience
- Strong knowledge of TIA 942A data center standards and concepts
- Strong understanding of network infrastructure concepts as they relate to structured cabling and data centers
- Strong understanding of UPS, cooling, environmental sensors, power, and other data center-related technologies
- Experience supporting network infrastructure cabling
- Windows server administration experience
- Linux server administration experience
- Cisco Catalyst IOS administration experience
- SQL database familiarity
- Switch administration experience
- Experience using copper and fiber testing equipment
- Prior experience developing effective documentation for architecture, procedures, and other relevant data
Personal Profile:
- Proven ability to effectively coordinate with external vendors and internal staff and work well with others in a team environment
- Must have strong initiative and work ethic
- Strong verbal and written communication skills essential
- Knowledge of Data Center Management Software is a plus
- Regular travel (80%) involved around the New Jersey, Washington DC and New York area; some international travel could be involved
- Must have valid driver’s license
