Position Details:
Below are some of the key experiences or qualifications that we would ideally like to see in the candidate. Of course, candidates with a subset of these experiences will be actively considered.
Deep mastery of data architecture – Candidate must have a mastery of a wide range of data architectures for 24/7 transactional and batch systems. A major plus is including big data technologies like Hadoop, real-time analytics systems (e.g., personalization), data warehouse, master data management (MDM), customer data integration (CDI), unstructured data and metadata in order to best define the appropriate data architecture that will address the company products and analytic needs.
Proven leadership and influence skills – This individual will be driving the data architecture for the company’s web, application, mobile and batch systems drive business results. The candidate must have demonstrated not only an ability to lead and motivate a team of direct reports, but also the ability to drive change across a broader organization through influence. The candidate is responsible for mentoring, training forecasting and goal setting for the department staff.
- Provide leadership and direction to a team of database engineers agnostic of location
- Develop and implement system level DB architecture, coordinate efforts in DB structure design and implementation, performance optimization and other development for global platforms
- Prioritize the engineering efforts to meet product and project schedules
- Create, track and update project schedule, communicate project status to the team members and to the management
- Drive new data infrastructures like Hadoop, NOSQL databases like Cassandra and explore new technologies to manage Big Data.
- Orchestrate real-time data services that can be leveraged by the analytics department
- Hands-on engineering skills – interest and ability to roll up sleeves and work along with other key architects and engineers in further evolving the company’s application architecture
- Proven leadership and influence skills – This individual will be driving a fundamental transformation in the way a company uses web, mobile, and social data to drive business results. This will require changing mindset and behavior in teams that do not report directly into this role. The candidate must have demonstrated not only an ability to lead and motivate a team of direct reports, but also the ability to drive change across a broader organization through influence.
- Direct cross-functional project teams during the development and implementation of major initiatives
- Develop and manage both long and short-term goals for department and staff
- Develop processes and procedures to implement functional strategies
- Create and enforce policies and standards
- Evaluate and mitigate project risks
- Manage project issues and project documentation
- Anticipate business issues to align operational priorities
- Utilize in-depth expertise in your own discipline and knowledge of the related disciplines
- Manage resources to ensure financial objectives are met within your own area
- Resolve complex problems that have implications beyond your own functional domain
- 7+ years of leading high performance DB team(s)
- Bachelor of Science Degree; preferable in Computer Science, MIS degree
- 10 yrs of hands-on experience with MS SQL of various versions, SQL2K and greater development a must experience
- Strong database design and development experience for very large database for global applications
- A passion for delivering great products and experiences to customers. Someone who thinks customer-in vs. technology-out
- High energy, confidence, and ambition--someone who can consistently perform at the highest level in an extremely fast paced, dynamic and high growth environment
- A crisp and passionate communicator with the ability to simplify, communicate, and sell his or her vision/ideas up, down, and across the organization
- Highly developed interpersonal skills—someone who can be as effective through influence as through direct control
- Strong problem solving and creative thinking skills
- Able to multi-tasking and managing multiple project/task assignments simultaneously
- Knowledge and conform SDLC principles
- Experience with data modeling tool (ER/Studio) a plus
- Prior software/data architecture a strong plus
