Early Intervention Paraprofessional 1:1 (Temporary) Job in Bronx 10065, New York Us

The Kennedy Child Study Center’s mission is to assist young children experiencing significant difficulty in critical areas of early childhood development such as cognition and learning, mobility, speech and communication, and social relations.  We have an immediate need for a temporary paraprofessional (1:1) to assist on a one-to-one basis with a child attending our Bronx Early Intervention program.

 

Under the guidance of the classroom teacher, the paraprofessional (1:1) will assist in the implementation of the educational program of the assigned classroom, including all non-instructional duties and daily classroom activities.  She or he will discuss assigned teaching area with the classroom teacher to coordinate and effectively organize instructional efforts. 

 

The paraprofessional (1:1) will also assist with the organization and preparation of teaching materials and supplies and will help to maintain program equipment and classroom space.  She or he will also help with plans to meet the needs of the assigned child including observation and evaluation of the child and maintaining a healthy and safe environment for the child.  The paraprofessional (1:1) will assist with the embarking and discharging of children from buses safely as well as support the physical needs of the child’s well-being, including toileting in a manner consistent with accepted procedures, dressing, feeding, and other hygiene-related activities.  At times, the paraprofessional (1:1) will perform other duties such as assisting with the clerical management of pupil records or providing oral/written translations assigned by the classroom teacher or the Early Intervention director.

 

The successful candidate will have prior knowledge of behavioral management techniques and child development, will be an excellent communicator, and will be able to follow directions.  She or he will consistently demonstrate a supportive, positive, and patient attitude. 

 

Qualifications for the position include: Minimum of a high school diploma or GED.  An Associate’s Degree and  New York State Certificate as Teacher Assistant Level I (or above) is preferred. Must have New York State Mandated Reported Training Certificate and previous experience with the MR/DD population is preferred.
