The apprentice learns the manual skills associated with the trade under the direct supervision of a journeyman wireman.  The training in the field might include the mounting of equipment and electrical boxes, the bending and installation of electrical conduit, the pulling and termination of wire and cable, and the wiring of switches, receptacles, and lighting fixtures in residential, commercial, and industrial occupancies.  Specialized installations can include the control of motors, heating, ventilating, and air conditioning equipment, traffic signal, fiber optics, and computer equipment.

 

The apprentice studies such subjects as mathematics, electrical theory, blueprint reading, National Electrical Code, nuclear energy, semiconductor devices, and the control of motors and generators in school.  Classes are held at our own training facility in Libertyville Illinois.

 

The Lake County Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee will accept applications for both the Inside and Telecommunication Electrical Apprenticeship programs at the Electrical Training Facility, from December 27, 2011 through January 31, 2012Applications will be accepted Monday through Thursday from 7:00am-12:00pm and 1:00pm-4:00pm, EXCEPT Wednesday January 11, 2012, from 7:00am - 12:00pm and 1:00pm - 5:30pm. Applications must be made in person.  Our address is 31290 N. US Hwy 45 Unit A Libertyville, Il 60048  Those accepted into the program may begin work in 2012.

A $25.00 application fee must be submitted at the time of application in the form of cash or money order only.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPRENTICESHIP

 

A pool of eligible applicants shall be established consisting of individuals who qualify for oral interview.  To qualify for oral interview, an applicant must meet the following basic requirements by February 29, 2012, unless he or she has a minimum of four thousand hours of substantiated electrical construction work experience:

·         Must be at least 18 years of age on or before June 1, 2012

·         Must be a high school graduate, have a GED or a two-year associate degree by February 29, 2012

·         Must have completed one full year of high school algebra or one post high school algebra course of 3 credit hours or more, with a passing grade for the class

·         Must have a valid driver’s license

·         Must have a qualifying score on the NJATC General Aptitude Test Battery administered by the training office after all other qualifying paper work has been submitted and approved.

·         Applicants selected from the pool will be required to pass a physical examination and drug screen test. The Apprenticeship Committee will schedule and pay for the physical examination and drug screen with a physician and drug testing facility of its choice.

·         Must submit a DD-214 to verify military training and/or experience if applicant is a veteran.

·         Must provide proof of name change if applicable.

 

Individuals, who can verify by providing undisputable documenting evidence that they have worked a minimum of 4000 hours specifically in the electrical construction trade, will qualify as an applicant for an oral interview with the JATC.  To qualify under this provision, applicants must complete an application form and remit the $25.00 application fee in the form of cash or money order, and must accurately respond to the questions below:

 

 

 

ALL CANDIDATES MUST ALSO BE ABLE TO COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS

 

1.      Physically and mentally able to safely perform or learn to safely perform essential functions of the job either

with or without reasonable accommodations.

2.      Able to get to and from work at job sites anywhere within the geographical area that this apprenticeship program covers.

3.      Able and willing to attend all related classroom training as required to complete their apprenticeship.

4.      Able to climb and work from ladders, scaffolds, poles and towers of various heights.

5.      Able to crawl and work in confined spaces such as attics, manholes and crawlspaces

6.      Able to read, hear, and understand instructions and warnings.
