Electromagnetic Design Engineer Job in Solihull B90 4Ax, Midlands Uk

A high calibre Physics or Engineering graduate or post-graduate is sought to join a team of world-class experts in the design and development of high-performance electro-magnetic actuation systems. The primary responsibility will be electro-magnetic design, analysis and optimisation using world-class design/simulation tools and laboratory facilities to push the leading edge of actuation technology. Design work will be taken through to the prototype and testing phases, and will be strongly linked to our centre of expertise for magnetic materials selection and characterization. Applications within TRW include high-performance actuators, motors and sensors for safety-critical automotive systems (with production volumes exceeding 1 million units per year). Equal focus will be on technology development for customers outside TRW, with widely varying applications – aerospace, automotive, industrial and domestic.

 

What you’ll do

 

·       Electro-magnetic design, analysis and optimisation of motors, linear actuators and sensors, including use of finite element based simulation

·       Customisation and development of design and optimization tools, whilst developing programming skills in e.g. Matlab and C

·       Develop software for test automation, data processing and analysis

·       Develop mathematical models of electro-magnetic devices for incorporation into system models

·       Support business win activities for high volume automotive applications for the parent company TRW Automotive

·       Support business development activities for consultancy projects

·       Support magnetic material analysis and testing

·       Support prototype build and testing

 

What we are looking for

 

Essential:

·       Physics or Electrical Engineering degree, preferably including electro-magnetics or electrical machine design and analysis

·       ‘A’ level (or equivalent) maths and physics, plus GCSE (or equivalent) grade C or above in English Maths

·       Strong analytical and problem solving skills

·       Enthusiasm, self motivation, and efficient organizational skills

 

Desirable:

·       Experience of writing computer programs - particularly Matlab/Simulink, C or LabView

·       Effective communication skills

·       Willingness to travel to customers, suppliers and conferences, occasionally abroad

·       Flexibility to adapt in an exciting, fast paced working environment
