GENERAL MANAGER
Peabody Western Coal Company has an opening for a General Manager. The primary responsibility of the position is to plan, lead and direct all mining activities in such a way as to meet and exceed all established safety, productivity, quality, and customer satisfaction objectives and expectations. This is the most senior position at the mine and it has full responsibility for all aspects of the mining process from permitting to final reclamation, including the responsibility to complete all phases of the mining process in a safe and productive manner.
The primary purpose of this position is to lead safety efforts, meet regulatory and production requirements, manage mine budget and financial processes, lead labor relations, tribal relations and all regulatory agency regulations. Support continuous improvement efforts, lead performance management processes and maintain productive customer relations.
The successful candidate is required to have a B.S. in Mining or Civil Engineering; M.S. is preferred. Fifteen (15) years of mining experience with half of which is in surface coal mining. Ten (10) years of progressive mine management experience. Strong industry knowledge to include surface mining techniques, equipment and technology. Must have strong financial and analytical skills related to budgeting, cash flow analysis, profit/loss and compliant fiscal controls.
This position requires proven leadership skills, excellent interpersonal skills with proven ability to resolve conflict, communicate effectively both orally and written, and possess effective negotiating skills. Must be a strategic thinker and leader.
The person must have strong computer skills including familiarity with common mine planning software, SAP experience is a plus. This position is based in Northern Arizona and will entail the need to travel and work beyond “ normal office hours” .
