Group Head of Market Risk- Commodities Business

We are looking for an experienced Market Risk Manager/Head of Market Risk to play a key role in establishing and developing effective Market Risk Control systems and strategies for our Global Commodities and Financial Services Trading Group. Based in London, but with a global remit you will be responsible overseeing for all our wide range of businesses, ranging from physical trading of soft commodities such as sugar, coffee, cocoa, agriculturals and brokerage to complex options and structured financial products. The role will report directly to the CRO and will have management responsibility for a small team. 
The ideal applicant will have at least 6 years’ experience within a Bank or Hedge Fund, active in commodity trading, including at least 3 years within a Risk Department working on Market Risk. 
Strong analytical and IT skills are key but the role also requires the ability to effectively influence and to develop strong co-operative relationships with the trading desk and Business Unit Leaders. The successful applicant will also display leadership and team skills, enthusiasm and the initiative to drive efficiency and change where required. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Establishing and maintaining an effective Global Market Risk Management system including. 

  1. Assessment and advisory services on risk systems and processes. 
  2. Development and maintenance of new and consistent market risk management procedures across business lines (particularly VaR calculations). 
  3. Additional ad hoc local, regional and global investigations/projects to ensure adequate management and calculation of Market Risk within local operations. 
  4. Active participation in the Risk Committees. 

Monitoring, maintaining and managing an appropriate Market Risk Exposure across the Group- including.

  1. Regular review of limits to ensure that they match the risk profile of the business. 
  2. Review of new trading strategies and/or structured transactions on request. 
  3. VaR computation and analysis. 
  4. Daily monitoring of market risks across the Group. 
  5. Identify and investigate issues of non-compliance with limits within the business units. 
  6. Flag issues of non-compliance to the Head of Risk and Risk Committee. 
  7. Preparation and submission of the Risk reports required by Senior Management and the Board. 
  8. New Business Approval Processes and on-boarding. 
  9. Development of best in class Market Risk Management.
