Head of Credit & Market Risk

The Risk group is a thriving and expert function supporting this global firm with all aspects of risk management. The team actively manages a varied and dynamic range of risk types, including security, fraud, information security, operational, credit, compliance, regulatory, market and reputational risks. We are currently seeking a qualified individual to join the Australian team in the role of Head of Credit Market Risk, with primary responsibility for the wholesale portfolio performance of the bank.

Reporting to the CRO you will play a lead role in the wholesale Credit Market Risk management function, covering Commercial / Corporate / Institutional Banking and Global Markets and ensuring quality control and efficient management of the credit approval process. You will oversee the management of stressed accounts and maintaining wholesale credit exposures, non-performing advances and impairment provisions within acceptable norms, and set lending guidelines that match the firm’s standards with risk strategy and appetite that reflect local markets. It is expected that you will lead people agenda including succession planning, talent management, performance management and improving employee engagement. Market risk oversight, and acting as key liaison point with specialist Market Risk team in region to ensure limit setting is also part of your role.

To be successful in this role, you will need a tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience, combined with extensive experience and strong knowledge of Corporate Banking Markets and related risk management. It is expected you will have a proven track record providing solutions around appropriate credit structuring, risk processes, monitoring and management. Strong leadership experience, including developing and retaining critical talent and building an effective and engaged team will be critical. The ability to form effective relationships and exercise influence at the most senior level of the organization will be key to your success, as will be a thorough understanding of the firm’s global strategies and the ability to collaborate with the business to accomplish these strategies.
