Head of Loan Agency
The Loan Agency team provides facility agency services under syndicated loan facilities originated by Corporate Banking, MME, Project Finance, and Finance. The administration of these facilities involves acting as facility agent for a syndicate of lenders under each facility, who in turn will be directed by the facility agent in their operation of the facility.
The purpose of this role is to Head the Loan Agency Client Services team ensuring coordination between the various parts of the team and the Transaction Management team, to ensure that the ongoing provision of Loan Agency services is of a satisfactory standard compared to our peers, and that market developments are understood and incorporated where possible.
A fundamental aspect to the role is to take responsibility for establishing the strategic direction for the Loan Agency business, in terms of product, pricing and technological development.
The jobholder is required to be fully conversant with the range of products offered in the syndicated loan market, and will have and maintain an awareness of market developments. They will have a good understanding of both client and lender requirements / issues, and how to deal with them. The jobholder will also have a good understanding of market IT solutions supporting all aspects of the facility agent function and provide consultancy services to ‘product users’.
In conjunction with the Business Development team assist with Price quotes for the Facility Agent/Security Agent role on new transactions
- Work with the Business Development team to expand business flow, reviewing opportunities to expand into new markets and develop third party external business
- Align resources and systems to new business flows
- Management oversight of the functions within the team
- Review of draft facility documentation when required, primarily to cover operational areas of the transactions
- Involvement in Project Finance facilities, ensuring that others in the team are able to deal with such transactions
- Manage the relationship with our business partners at all levels (origination and relationship teams), and act as a primary escalation point for critical issues
- Provide expertise and guidance in complex facilities, acting as the point of contact and escalation as necessary
- Lead and motivate the team to maximize effectiveness, providing vision and clear direction
- Resolve organizational and staffing issues, ensuring that the team is properly resourced with appropriately trained staff. This will include suitable succession planning
- Devise and where required deliver ad-hoc training to managers on the team, primarily in new products
- Provide guidance and support where needed to Transaction Management colleagues
- Ensure that procedures and controls are adhered to, and are consistent with the wider CTLA business e.g. KYC, billing
- Identify weaknesses within the team, and implement new procedures/controls as necessary – procedures to be fully documented
- Review performance of direct reports, as well as managing the review process for the team
- Engender a positive and timely communications structure through regular meetings with direct reports, and team meetings to aide effective communication within the team
- Provide ‘consultancy’ in relation to loan product operational matters
- Implement an effective liaison and workflow process between Loan Agency Transaction Management, Agent Client Services teams
- Understand, follow and demonstrate compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations and procedures that apply to the conduct of the business, specifically Internal Controls and any Compliance policy including, the Group Compliance policy
- Maintain Internal Control standards, including the timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators
- Be aware of the Operational Risk scenario associated with your role and act in a manner that takes account of operational risk considerations
Role Dimensions
CTLA operates in both the Debt Capital Markets and the Bank Debt Market (principally the Syndicated Loan Market) and manages a mix of business generation, documentation, operation, and relationship management/customer interface with a broad spectrum of globally based clients. Regular contact will be maintained with a very wide variety of both internal and external customers in a number of locations. The diversity of both customer and location requires the jobholder to be flexible, proactive and up to date on current market standards and practices
