A Home Study is one of the initial steps in beginning the foster/adoption process. Home Study Writers prepare a home study by making home visits, collecting required documentation, motivating the family, and effectively communicating with the interested family, the Department of Children's Services case worker, and the Home Study Program Coordinator at New Vision, Inc. Home Study Writers are assigned a number of caseloads, based on ability and efficiency, and are responsible for submitting a thorough/completed file in a required time-frame, typically 60 days. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES include the following: Other duties may be assigned. Travel to various homes within the Mid-Cumberland Region (Stewart, Houston, Humphreys, Dickson, Montgomery, Robertson, Cheatham, Williamson, Rutherford, Wilson, Trousdale, and Sumner counties) and the Davidson County area to interview families interested in fostering/adopting children. Obtain all paperwork required to complete a home study file according to DCS policy 16.4 and DCS checklists in the allotted time frame. Abide by New Vision, Inc. Home Study Program Manual. Uphold the standards outlined in the independent contractorsrsquo; agreement. (if applicable) Effectively work independently. Display efficient and effective verbal communication. Compile a complete and concise study on a prospective family and their home, life experiences,health, lifestyle, extended family, attitudes, support system, values, beliefs, and other factors relating to the prospective adoption, all of which is summarized in a home study report. Effectively communicate with case workers at the Department of Childrenrsquo;s Services to ensure all information is collected and understood on the families and the child being placed. Send weekly updates to New Vision via email on current home study case loads. Prepare case(s) for final review 2 weeks before submission deadline. Successfully articulate observations in written form into the Home Study Narrative. Attend monthly meetings/training to review files and ensure everyone is up to date on new rules and policies. Comply with all New Vision, Inc. Policies and Procedures Comply with the federal Confidentiality Law and HIPAA regulations and guidelines to protect the rights of the client.
