Main Function

As part of the Fixed Income Research business, the Credit Research team provides fundamental analysis as well as strategic and quantitative analysis. The fundamental analysis focuses on individual corporate/financial issuers and sectors and the drivers of investment performance for each. Dedicated research teams cover Investment Grade, High Yield, Emerging Market, Distressed and Municipals. Our Credit business operates in the Americas, Europe and Asia across all major currencies and in both the cash and derivative markets to deliver products and services to institutional fixed income investors. For the tenth year in a row, Barclays US Fixed Income Research team has been ranked #1 in the annual Institutional Investor "All-America Fixed-Income Research" survey.
U.S. High Yield Research provides recommendations on non-investment grade debt securities issued by companies in industries including telecom and media, industrial, retail, gaming, food/consumer products, and energy to clients, traders, and distribution. U.S. High Grade Research provides recommendations on investment grade debt securities issued by companies in industries including telecom, banking, insurance, retail, energy, and utilities to clients, traders, and distribution. Emerging Markets Credit Research provides recommendations on debt securities issued by companies in emerging markets to clients, traders, and distribution. At Barclays, the Research role is essential and is expected to contribute towards revenue generation. In U.S. HY Research, senior analysts typically cover one or more industries, and are often supported by one or more junior analysts (analyst or associate). A Junior Analyst working with a senior analyst is expected to gather and analyze data on companies, industries, and markets. As a junior analyst gains experience, they are expected to convert the analysis into well-conceived investment recommendations, company update and initiation reports, and detailed financial models. Analysts are expected to write analyses and present findings to external and internal clients, including colleagues in Sales and Trading within Credit Products as well as other product areas (Equities, Rates). We look for high levels of analytical capability, strong communication skills, high levels of commitment, and a desire for responsibility and firm-wide levels of exposure. The ability to think like a trader or portfolio manager is helpful in the research role.
