Sutter East Bay Medical Foundation (SEBMF), located in Lafayette, California, is a not-for-profit corporation that exists to provide medical services, research and education. The Foundation provides the infrastructure for the delivery of physician services, and contracts with a separate corporation comprised of physicians and other care providers to deliver the clinical services. This multi-specialty Foundation will provide a platform from which new physicians can be recruited to provide physician services in a non-profit, community setting. POSITION SUMMARY:    The Laboratory Assistant performs clerical functions to register and verify eligibility of the patient, enters laboratory tests, collects and processes clinical blood and non-blood specimens and drug screens; dispenses collection instructions to patients, and assists manager as requested. The Laboratory Assistant maintains a safe and professional environment.  He/she demonstrates organizational commitment and promotes a positive image to patients, clients, colleagues and the public in general.  The Laboratory Assistant performs all duties exercising great care to ensure quality results and excellent customer service, supporting and promoting at all times the SEBMF Vision - to enhance the well-being of the people in the communities we serve.  The Laboratory Assistant may work at one or more of the locations.  This position requires a person who will dress and act in a professional manner at all times and in all circumstances. The ability to communicate well is emphasized.

Education:
Certification in Phlebotomy required
High School graduation or its equivalent is required. 

Medical training, including medical terminology preferred

 
Knowledge and Experience:
Phlebotomy experience within the last 3 years, including capillary and venipuncture techniques as well as pediatric and geriatric experience preferred
Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory operations is preferred
 
Skills:
         Demonstrated ability to professionally handle public contact, confidential information         and maintain effective workflow is required.
         Demonstrated good organization, communication and interpersonal skills is required
 
Certificate/License:  State of California Department of Health Services "Certified Phlebotomy Technician 1 or 2
