Laboratory Manager - HTA - Microbiology, Virology, Tissue Culture, Clean Room -Sussex £32-£42K

Our client is a leading private cord blood bank organisation based in West Sussex and have an immediate opportunity for a Laboratory Manager with extensive microbiology, virology and tissue culture skills and experience.

As the successful candidate your responsibilities will include:

• To oversee and maintain an HTA licensed laboratory using extreme aseptic techniques in a clean room using GMP and GLP standards to process umbilical cord blood and tissue and other adult tissue sources for cryopreservation.
• To report to the Operations Manager, and Directors on laboratory issues in a timely manner via the Governance Meetings or immediately as necessary
• To act as the point of contact for all staff members for support in microbiology, virology
• To be familiar with the current legislation and to ensure that non-compliance with legislation is prevented where possible, reported and actioned to prevent recurrences, reviewing process as appropriate and necessary
• To train junior staff as appropriate for the job function and laboratory requirements
• To at all times work in compliance with the current legislation and accreditation status of the laboratory
• To maintain an active knowledge of the science base to ensure best practices are followed at all time
• To provide technical information in response to questions posed by customers or any staff member
• To undertake projects to improve, develop and strengthen the technical ability of the company
• To facilitate primary tissue culture techniques in-house
• To be able in time to undertake the role of Designated Individual in accordance with the HT Act.

As the successful candidate you should ideally be educated to PhD level with significant experience in a relevant scientific environment and will be IBMS registered. It is essential that you have an understanding of and experience in clean room techniques together with significant laboratory experience in microbiology, virology and primary cell culture experience.

Additionally, you must have first class communication skills together with the ability to build strong working relationships. A full clean UK driving license is required.

Vaccination against Hepatitis B will be required upon starting this job if not already vaccinated.
