SUMMARY

Direct transmission policy and strategic activities as they relate to FERC.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Directs the evaluation, development, and implementation of all AEP transmission’s strategic activities as it pertains to involvement in FERC and other industry

organizations.

 

Leads the AEP transmission’s effort in the appropriate committees, working groups and task forces teams, and provides summaries to senior management.

 

Works with AEP Legal to develop transmission positions for various AEP FERC filings related to transmission.

 

Identify dockets its associated FERC filings from other Transmission Owner’s, RTO’s, states and other stakeholders to intervene on and develop AEP transmission position along with AEP legal and AEP regulatory groups.

 

Monitor strategic changes to FERC policy and positions due to changes in the political and environmental landscape.

 

Provide guidance on the scope and assist various process changes in PJM and SPP to provide clarification of efforts that are already in FERC’s jurisdiction.

 

Monitor current and potential regulations, laws, and business practices that may have an impact and affect AEP with regard to transmission policy, cost allocation, system planning, and operations and act as AEP’s resource to advise and collaborate with others.

 

Provide strategic feedback on FERC’s incentive policy and provide strategic direction to AEP and its associated JV’s incentive rate filings.

 

Represent AEP at FERC and other industry meetings and advocate positions helpful to AEP’s strategic transmission interests.

 Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree in engineering, business administration or public policy. Master's degree preferred but not required.

 

 Minimum of 10 years' experience in a progressively responsible position in an electric utility or equivalent related experience. 

A JD degree is preferred.

 

Must possess strong knowledge in electric power systems and a exhibit high level of proficiency in FERC policy matters, including a good understanding of emerging issues in the electric utility industry, to provide strategic direction to AEP based on current and future FERC strategy. 

 

Proven leadership and excellent oral and written communication skills to interact with affected business units and external groups are essential.
