ASSISTANT TEACHER

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Acton Montessori School is looking for an Assistant Teacher.  The ideal candidate is Montessori qualified with Montessori experience.  Employment would start immediately and employment ends approximately five days after the last day of school.  The job is full time, Monday through Friday.

There are additional times when your attendance will be required such as parent conferences, parent evenings, special events such – as year-end celebrations –  and First Aid/CPR training. 

Duties/Requirements:

The ideal assistant teacher would have Montessori teaching experience and a genuin interest and coppasity to teach children.  The ideal assistant teacher shows good judgment in dealing with children.  The assistant teacher has the ability to show sensitivity and understanding in dealing in a non-punitive and firm fashion with out-of-bounds behavior.

      ·         EEC Teacher Qualified.

·         Assisting in planning and carrying out the directives of the Lead Teacher

·         Assisting in caring for the environment, including cleaning, renewing supplies and making materials i.e. classroom doors and walls as provided and directed by the Lead Teacher.

·         Record keeping of children in practical life area, i.e. fine motor, gross motor, social development.

·         Plan and provide materials for collage, cutting, and gluing activities.

·          Participate in writing the monthly newsletter.

·          Supervise and maintain order of the snack area.

·         Ability to work full day.

·          Understanding and implementing Montessori philosophy including: presenting materials as directed by the Lead Teacher, knowledge of basic presentations and learning additional ones at the direction of the Lead Teacher.

·         Observing group Circle Time activities as directed by the Lead Teacher, assisting in maintaining the group’s tone during this time, leading small group or whole group times as supervised and directed by the Lead Teacher.

·         Taking responsibility for the classroom if the Lead Teacher is called away temporarily.

·         Attend and contribute to staff meetings, workshops and parent conferences.

·          Attending all school functions

·          Assisting in supervision of children during all outdoor play periods. 

·          Assist in room clean-up as directed by the Lead Teacher. 

·          Preparing collage trays weekly, paints for easel and seasonal artwork for classroom, doors and walls indicated by Lead Teacher.
