GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION: Reports to the Clinical Administrator and provides direct patient care to inmates under the direction of a Physician Physician's Assistant or a Registered Nurse. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Implements physician nurse practitioner or physician assistant orders within the scope of practice under the auspices of a Registered Nurse. Assists with feeding bathing and other inmate activities of daily living (ADL's) as needed within the Health Service Unit. Consistently practices universal precautions and maintains an awareness of appropriate infection control practice. Maintains or assists in maintaining the supply stock in the Health Services Unit by ordering in a timely and appropriate manner. Maintains a working knowledge of the rules and regulations of the Department of Correction and complies with the same. Maintains a working knowledge of the rules of the personnel policies of UMCHP and adheres to the same. Performs other specific duties as required. May occasionally perform specimen collection and related routine phlebotomy tasks. REQUIRED EDUCATION AND TRAINING: Graduate of an approved Certified Nurse Aide program with current certification. Certification requirement may be waived in a non-infirmary site with verifiable on-the-job training and experience It is an essential part of the job that the employer can ask the employee to work beyond his/her regularly scheduled hours.
