PSU Design Engineer
ALSTOM GRID UK Ltd Substation Automation Solutions is a global leader in the design and manufacture of Substation Intelligent Electronic Devices which deliver Protection, Measurement and Datacom functionality to our customers around the world.
The Role
Reporting to the Hardware Team Leader, the ideal candidate will be part of a global hardware team responsible for delivering electronic designs to provide creative and practical solutions to satisfy the requirements of the cutting edge protection and control platforms.
- Plan and deliver innovative designs for new projects.
- Keep abreast of latest developments in technologies, tools and processes.
- Ensure products comply with relevant safety environmental impact legislation.
- Provide expertise to ensure resolution of customer and production related issues occurring on the existing product ranges.
- Support internal audits and enforce adherence to documented policies and procedures to uphold quality of designs.
The Person
You will have a Bachelor's degree in Electronic Engineering (Masters Degree a plus) or equivalent. The successful design engineer will have the following technical skills
- Experience and knowledge in the following areas of electronic design and analysis
- Analogue
- Power supply up to 40W
- Electro-magnetics and transformers
- Resolving EMC issues at product and system levels.
- Failure Modes Effects Analysis FMEA.
- Parts Stress Analysis PSA.
- Reliability calculation and verification.
- Experience in the use of design/simulation tools.
- Familiar with design for manufacture and design for test philosophies.
- Knowledge ofMentorexpedition schematic capture and PCB layout tools would be advantageous.
