CLINICAL RISK MANAGER Reference Title HR Use Only: Quality Risk Managment Hospital: Cleveland Clinic Main Campus Family Health Centers Facility: CLEVELAND CLINIC FOUNDATION (MAIN CAMPUS) Department: CCHS Risk Management Job Code: T28116 Pay Grade: 15 Schedule: Full Time Shift: Days + Call Hours: 0800-1500 Job Details: Summary: Assists in managing the organization's clinical risk management program on a day-to-day basis; immediately responds, investigates and manages significant adverse events that occur in the clinical setting and result in patient harm. The CRM manages and analyzes risk management data, assists in the development and implementation of risk management educational programs. Job Responsibilities: Responds immediately to significant adverse events resulting in patient harm reported directly or via the Safety Event Reporting System (SERS). Responsible for rotating on-call pager duties providing 24/7 coverage and providing emergency on-site response as needed. Provides immediate risk management advice to clinical providers. Notifies appropriate senior leadership and leads RCAs for events meeting critieria. Facilitates disclosure of unanticipated outcomes by healthcare providers who are responsible for the patient. With direction and /or supervision of the Law Department and Enterprise Risk and Insurance, may interact directly with patients and families when appropriate and works proactively toward early resolution. Collaborates with the Law Department to coordinate a confidential investigation of potential or actual claims against the organization. Promotes maximum confidentiality by maintaining files to preserve applicable privileges. Records, collects, documents, maintains and provides to the Law Department and/or outside defense attorneys any requested information and documents necessary to prepare testimony in pending litigation. Serves as liaison to assigned Institutes/Facilities as a resource for any risk related issues. Provides aggregate analysis of risk data, maintains statistical trending of losses and other risk management data as appropriate. Presents risk management educational programs incorporating information identified from review and analysis of event and claims data. Other duties as assigned. Education: Registered Nurse (BSN) or Bachelor's Degree in a health sciences discipline. Experience: Minimum five years clinical experience required (recent clinical experience is preferred). Minimum three years risk management, quality management or legal nurse consulting experience preferred. Licensure/Certification/Registration: CPHRM designation preferred. CPHRM designation required after one or two years, depending upon previous risk management experience. Current RN licensure. Other licensed clinicians will be considered commensurate with education, knowledge, skills and experience. Physical Requirements: Manual dexterity to operate office equipment. Requires frequent computer entry, standing, walking and sitting. Good visual acuity through normal or corrected vision. Normal or corrected hearing and speech.
