JOB SUMMARY Manage drivers hours of service, plan and dispatch drivers, communicate with other departments on manpower and customer requirements, manage equipment placement, enforce safety rules, company policies, and procedures in a fast paced environment. Supervise and coordinate activities of drivers engaged in operating motor vehicles long distances to haul freight for motor transportation company. Provide performance management, training, feedback, and guidance ensuring effective utilization of resources. Recommend personnel actions, such as hiring, promotion, and corrective notification. Initiate and administer the disciplinary process as necessary. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Plan and direct the movement of equipment and freight between terminals and relays within the geographic area of responsibility. Assign motor vehicles and drivers to meet daily manpower and transportation needs for conveyance of on time freight to our customers. Assign vehicles according to factors such as; serviceable freight to YRC Customers, length and purpose of trip, freight requirements. Record and maintain driver-staffing requirements for all runs. Prepare list of extra drivers available for assignment for regular or special trips. Select drivers according to such considerations as seniority, qualifications, time, location and duration of assignment (DOT hours of service). Issue trips sheets, toll cards and necessary paperwork to drivers. Record time of departure, unit numbers, destination and expected time of return. Monitor and maintain equipment pools. Handle equipment breakdowns and repairs. Determine vendor to use and dispatch to breakdown location. Using independent judgment, effectively recommend disciplinary process as necessary, providing appropriate coaching and documentation of actions.
