Position Summary This position researches, designs, implements, and consults to enhance systems performance and communications. Duties of the system administrator include database administration, disaster recovery of system data, operating system software, data integrity and virus protection of the servers, the clients and the network. Duties include data communications to remote hospital sites and remote users for HIS system, systems for departmental use, systems monitoring, and patient care data. Other responsibilities are the accessibility and security of applications on all networked servers and hardware and some software updates. Troubleshooting on networking protocols and the testing and documentation solutions are required. Works often with vendors on the design of network configuration and has high regard for network / data security. Carries an on call pager for operational support in case of system outages. Network and Systems must be available 24x7x365. Position will need to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization and with outside clinicians, vendors and users. Shares systems administration and data security and backup for approximately three hundred servers in a large-scale network of over 1,500 devices and 4500 users . Position is essential to the maintaining a working and secure clinical and financial enterprise network. Job Qualifications Education or Formal Training Bachelors degree, preferably in computer science is required. Special Qualifications (licensure, registration, etc.) A valid Colorado driver's license. Knowledge, Skill and Ability 1. Working knowledge of PC's, peripherals, routers, switches, communication protocols, DNS servers, active directory, server operating systems, VPN's, firewalls, FTP. 2. Ability to work as a team and capable of independent judgment. 3. Ability to access threats and risks to data and systems in the design and implementation of data access. 4. Working knowledge of network hardware, protocols and network topology . 5. Ability to effectively communicate with clinical practitioners, vendors, and users. 6. Ability to troubleshoot complex issue and with third party vendors. 7. Ability to document networks, user instructions and procedures. Experience 1. Minimum five years experience as system/network administer in a large scale environment with a large user population. 2. Demonstrated knowledge of networks and servers 3. Working knowledge of System Administrator duties and procedures. 4. Working knowledge of current hospital hardware preferred. 5. Working knowledge of network administration 6. Interpersonal skill for working in stressful, time critical situations often with difficult vendors or users. Materials and Equipment Directly Used 1. Dell servers, including blade servers and Meditech OSAL servers 2. Cisco switches 3. DNS servers and active directory 4. Dell LTO tape backup system 5. Wiring closet / cabling 6. Personal computers, laptops, peripherals Working Environment/Physical Activities 1. Infection control procedures for cabling 2. Antivirus precautions on servers and clients 3. HIPAA privacy and security requirements 4. Software licensing 5. Cabling closets and firestop procedures for any wall intrusions 6. Physical requirements include the ability to lift forty pounds one foot for several minutes, 7. Manual dexterity and hand/eye coordination capable of manipulation small switches, cables and hand tool in small areas. 8. Will need to travel to remote sites, which may include private residences. 9. Audio acuity for telephone use and detecting alarms. 10. Will work with users and vendors over phone devices giving and/or following verbal instructions.
