SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR

SUMMARY

It is the mission of Long Beach Transit to provide public transportation services that enhance and improve the quality of life for the residents in our community. In support of this mission, the Systems Administrator is responsible for all aspects of server support as well as support for web based business applications and software products, including the design and development of programs and reports that facilitate the exchange of information between systems and enhance end-user capabilities.  In this capacity, this position troubleshoots problems related to Linux, Windows, Apache, IIS and other web based applications. This position reports to the Manager of Information Systems.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

·          Support and maintenance of web based applications.

·          Programming support of Enterprise Intranet. 

·          Develope, test and implement web based applications in Linux and Windows environments.

·          Create and maintain web forms, database, interfaces, layouts and website graphics.

·          Complete assigned software support tasks within designated time frames and in accordance with company standards.

·          Interact and advise internal staff on strategies and methods of analyzing and resolving application problems. 

·          Work closely with the manufacturer to investigate, resolve code errors, test quality of modified codes received from manufacturer to maintain system’s integrity prior to moving the resolution to the Production environment.

·          Ability to communicate effectively with end users.


REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS and EXPERIENCE

·          Experience administering Linux and Windows

·          Administration of Java application servers

·          Manage Apache and IIS servers

·          HTML, Flash, Photoshop, Dreamweaver

·          Web infrastructure security

·          Knowledge of web application development concepts

·          Open source software experience

·          Strong user support skills with the ability to resolve difficult system issues and maintain effective working relationships with the software manufacturer

·          Platform experience with Red Hat Linux

·          Experience with Windows Server

·          Strong PC skills including Microsoft Office

·          An understanding of software engineering process and software lifecycle

·          Ability to contribute to business process analysis from the perspective of the application systems

·          Strong written and verbal skills

·          Ability to learn quickly

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, preferred.  At least two years of experience in software maintenance and support, and two years experience in developing and/or supporting commercial client-server Enterprise applications. Must be a self-motivated individual with strong problem solving skills.

 

SALARY

 

Grade 11 - Salary Range: $4,369.00 –  $5,350.00 per month (DOQ) with excellent fringe benefits.  Apply at Long Beach Transit, 1963 E.
