I.                Job Summary

 

The Systems Engineer (L3) is responsible for providing technical leadership to members of the IT Infrastructure team. This includes but is not limited to providing research and development for new IT Technologies, providing project management on IT Infrastructure projects, and providing technical support and mentoring to other members of the IT Infrastructure team. The Systems Engineer (L3) provides technical leadership on all elements of the distributed computing environment including, WAN/LAN networks, Windows/Linux servers and associated applications, network security, data storage and backups, disaster recovery, and data center design and monitoring.

 

II.              Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

·       Provides guidance to the IT department and customers as necessary to facilitate the selection and development of new IT technologies and business applications.

·       Leads IT Infrastructure team members in the design, development, implementation, and support of IT technologies across all existing and new Boar’s Head facilities.

·       Works with network personnel to monitor volume, capacity, and bandwidth of existing network architecture to meet changing priorities and ensure growth is managed appropriately.

·       Acts as escalation point for IT Infrastructure related issues.

·       Works with other members of the IT Infrastructure team to ensure data storage, backup, and recovery processes are functioning properly.

·       Leads the IT Infrastructure team in the creation, maintenance, and testing of disaster recovery policies and procedures.

·       Oversees application of preventative maintenance routines to ensure system performance, availability, and security.

·       Assists IT security personnel in the design, development, and implementation of security technologies to prevent, detect, and respond to internal and external security threats.

·       Helps develop project plans and implementation details as required to support implementation of new IT technologies and upgrades to existing systems.

·       Serves as consultative resource and mentor to IT Infrastructure staff and peers to facilitate problem resolution and ensure consistency and compliance to departmental standards and policies.

 

III.            Education and/or Experience

 

·       Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field required. Masters degree desired.

·       Minimum of 9 yrs IT experience with demonstrated experience leading IT teams.

·       Minimum of 5 yrs previous experience supporting all aspects of a large enterprise network.

·       Proven ability to multi-task and operate in a dynamic enterprise environment.

·       In-depth understanding of client-server systems, wide-area networks, data storage systems, and data center operations.

·       Working knowledge of NAS and/or SAN storage technologies. Experience with Network Appliance and EMC storage devices desired.

·       Working knowledge of server hardware. Experience with Cisco UCS and Dell blade systems desired.

·       Experience installing and supporting VMWare technologies including ESX, View, and vCenter. VCE VBlock experience a plus.

·       Demonstrated expertise supporting Microsoft technologies including Windows 2003/2008 Server, Exchange 2007/2010, Active Directory, and SQL.

·       Experience specifying, configuring, installing, and troubleshooting network routers and switches.

·       Advanced knowledge of network protocols such as TCP/IP, WINS, DHCP, DNS, SNMP, FTP, HTTP, SMTP, etc.

·       Demonstrated experience specifying, installing, and maintaining data center technologies including UPS, PDUs, AC, environmental monitoring, and physical security systems.

·       Experience supporting Disaster Recovery Sites and related technologies.

·       Documented technical training or certification in Microsoft, Cisco or other IT technologies highly desirable.  

·       General knowledge of firewalls, VPNs, and Linux systems desired.
