Systems Engineer

Specific Job Description -- Must be willing and able to work a continuously rotating shift schedule, which includes weekends and holidays supporting 24/7 operations -- Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. -- The Ground System Engineer responsibilities include providing real time, operations support for Space Based IR System (SBIRS) 24x7 Operations by providing technical skill and advice to the USAF crews for the operation and maintenance of the system software and equipment by identifying system problems, trouble shooting, and correcting both hardware and software failures. -- Operate and status all Ground Control application Control and Status Points. -- Software Maintenance support for all Silicon Graphics and SUN computers, PC-compatible computers, and the associated switching, network, and communications circuits and equipment. -- He/she also provides feedback to Software Development on software problems, supporting the USAF crew training and to provide System Administration for the SBIRS systems by installing, configuring, and managing the system software. -- Provide limited SYBASE System Administrator support for multiple system databases. -- Provides limited UNIX System Administration support. -- Participation in software version testing and evaluation and provide feedback to the Development community. -- Assist Configuration Management in software upgrades and changes at multiple SBIRS Ground Stations (MCSB, ITC, TIC, MCS, and IMCSB). -- Act as the liaison between Contract Logistics Support (CLS) and the USAF Crews during operations to ensure timely problem resolution. -- Document all Software problems and follow up with accurate resolution. -- Interface with Air Force and Contractor personnel to ensure proper operation of the SBIRS software and Hardware and ensure the timely resolution to problems and/or deficiencies. -- Act as Shift Lead being the focal point for all system related questions from both Air Force and CLS personnel. -- GSE will maintain Access Control, work closely with System Administrators to ensure proper system operation and that problems are being resolved, ensure system operability for the 24 hour, 7 day a week SBIRS mission operations with minimal downtime. -- Provide maintenance and support for on-going systems, which includes, but not limited to, monitoring of system(s) performance and data backups. -- Identify causes of operating system/application software problems and determine appropriate solutions. -- Complete systems/software documentation as required. -- Job requires interfacing with the customer and system engineers concerning new hardware and software installations, and developing briefings regarding system status / anomaly resolution on a regular basis. -- Travel between Colorado Springs, Boulder, and Aurora CO. will be occasionally required. -- Strong systems analysis skills essential. UNIX Operating System knowledge, IRIX and SOLARIS preferred. UNIX platform hardware and networks knowledge a plus. -- Shell scripting (PERL, UNIX Shells) experience and satellite operations a plus. Standard Job Description Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
