UK VAT Compliance Manager recruitment

The Indirect Tax Group in London provide Morgan Stanley with global in-house expertise, primarily in VAT. The Group brings together technical experts who advise business units, with controllers who have an understanding of the processes, systems and accounting principles. The Group advises Morgan Stanley entities in 38 countries, with over 250 individual VAT/GST registrations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

We are looking for a proactive individual to join the European VAT team in this high profile financial services group.  The candidate would be required to have a good understanding of UK VAT and knowledge of other European VAT systems would be an advantage. Main responsibility is for the compilation of VAT returns for several Morgan Stanley entities in Europe.

Task requirements:

• Complete a regular monthly process of preparing/reviewing VAT returns statistical declarations for Morgan Stanley registrations.
• Co-ordinate the consolidation of information for the returns e.g. Partial exemption calculations
• Co-ordinate/perform various postings to the General Ledger and reconcile the relevant VAT accounts monthly
• Liaising with other departments particularly Accounts Payable and other Infrastructure groups to ensure correct information has been received for the returns and working with them to resolve issues.
• Managing ad hoc issues and assisting with audits.
• Provide VAT awareness training to various Morgan Stanley Departments
• Proactively look for ways to optimise VAT expenses for the firm and increase efficiencies with respect to return completions.

Skills Required
• Accounting qualification (ACCA/CIMA) with FS experience.
• Well organised and detail-oriented
• High proficiency in using Microsoft tools, particularly Excel
• Good interpersonal and communications skills; team player
• Confident, self-motivated, innovative and flexible
• Ability to work closely with the Manager, or without direct supervision
