Utility Sewing Machine Operator

Summary/Purpose: The utility sewing operator will operate several different types of industrial sewing machines and perform a variety of different operations to assemble textile bag products and/or related products. Essential Responsibilities: Read and interpret work instructions Verify fabrics, threads, and cut fabric parts Operate several different types of industrial sewing equipment Monitor machine operation to detect problems, such as defective stitching, breaks in thread, or machine malfunction Inspect finished product for correct stitching, quality, and uniformity of sew Replace needles, presser feet, and bobbins (if needed). Mount and use fabric guides per specifications Use folders and other sewing attachments per specifications Attach tape, trim, elastic, or binding per specifications Ability to draw thread through machine guides, tension devices, and needle eye Responsible for safety and good housekeeping practices around work areas Promptly completes any other duties and responsibilities designated by the department supervisor Qualifications/Requirements: Minimum of 3 to 5 years of previous industrial sewing experience Extensive knowledge of sewing equipment and sewing accessories Extensive knowledge of sewing techniques Ability to adapt to moving from one operation to another and work in an efficient manner Must be quality and detail oriented Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time Ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, and handle fabric and other small parts Ability to maneuver and guide fabric during sewing operation Ability to see details at close range Ability to match or detect differences between colors, including shades of colors Ability to work at a fast pace and meet work standard Have good hand and eye coordination
