Overview:
The Virtualization Systems Engineer - Managed Hosting Operations position is responsible for ongoing support and maintenance of Internap¡¦s Managed Hosting Environment with a focus on VMWare, Xen, KVM, HyperV and other virtualization technologies. A successful candidate will play a key role to continuously improve our system management practices, as well as to provide and implement creative solutions to overcome operational challenges for Internap¡¦s Managed Hosting and Enterprise VMware environments.
Responsibilities:
- Provide timely "final-tier" operations support for virtualized environments and management systems.
- Development and maintenance of system management tools.
- Proactive monitoring and resolution of incidents.
- Continued development of automation of Internap¡¦s systems.
- Develop and execute acceptance test plans for Internap¡¦s Operations organization.
- Continued refinement and improvement of hardware and software deployment process.
- Develop and Document best practices for installation of virtualized environments.
- Develop performance monitoring reporting and alerting
- Support and assist Internap¡¦s Engineering organization as required.
- Participation in a 24x7 oncall rotation with team.
Qualifications:
- BS or higher degree in Computer Science, MIS, Mathematics, Statistics, or related degree.
- 5+ years experience managing VMWare ESX and ESXi systems in a production setting.
- VMWare enterprise edition experience deploying and troubleshooting.
- Strong Virtualization experience in VMware, Citrix Xen and Microsoft Hyper-V
- Excellent Python or Perl programming skills
- Strong debugging skills and excellent problem solving skills.
- Good communications and discovery skills.
- Must be able to work a flexible work schedule that may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
