RECEIVING

Unload incoming shipments and check carrier’s freight bill to verify that material delivered belongs to Wesco.  Inspect deliveries to ensure they match the freight bill.  Check for damages and/or piece count discrepancies and note issues on the carrier’s bill.  List the specific type of damage found such as crushed cartons, water damage, material not palletized, torn cartons, forklift damage, material double stacked (if damage resulted), transformers not bolted to skids, and any other damages.  Make sure the delivery driver is made aware of the discrepancies found with the shipment.

CHECK-IN

Take material received to designated staging locations.  Group like material together and place on an available staging location.  Note the staging location and any quantity discrepancies on the packing list.  When all materials for a packing list have been properly staged, give the packing list to the appropriate personnel to be entered into the computerized inventory system.

PUT-AWAY

Stage material on a put away cart or pallet using a radio frequency (RF) scanner. Move the put away cart/pallet to the storage location indicated by the RF scanner. Scan the materials and unload them into their designated storage location.  Continue until the put away cart/pallet is empty.  Repeat the process until all material received has been put away.

RETURN MATERIAL

Material returned from Wesco branches are handled (received, checked-in and put-away) the same as supplier materials except that staging is done at locations specifically designated for return material.

REPLENISHMENT

Materials in picking locations (active) may require additional quantities (replenishments) to fill existing or future orders. Pick, stage, and deliver replenishment materials as directed by the RF scanner. Complete all scanning steps to verify item and correct locations. Continue until all required replenishments have been completed.

PICKING

Orders entered in the inventory tracking system are released in “waves” that show areas the material is to be picked.  The associate scans a designated area listed on the wave and begins picking from locations as directed by the RF scanner.  As material is picked, barcodes are placed on the material and the material is placed on the conveyor or carried to the packing area.  Continue the pick process until all areas have been completed.

PACKING

Scan the barcode under which the material was picked and move it to the location specified by the RF scanner. An associate working at the packing location will scan the material and physically pack it. Proper packing requires that fragile / lightweight material be placed on top of heavy material, and that material too small to be placed on a pallet is packed in boxes with other loose material.  Boxes with loose items are prepared for shipping by placing packing paper into the box to fill voids and taping the box closed.  Once all material has been properly scanned and packed, a report is run to determine whether everything was properly scanned.  Then packing lists are printed and the pallets are wrapped for shipment.

SHIPPING

Scan the pallet barcodes with the RF scanner to determine which pallet s are to be loaded for shipment.  As the material is loaded into the trailer, scan the carrier’s barcode.   Continue until all pallets have been scanned and loaded. When all pallets have been scanned and loaded, a report is run to determine whether everything was properly scanned and loaded.

BILLS OF LADING

Print a bill of lading for each carrier after all material has been picked, packed and loaded correctly. The bill is printed by the designated associate using the shipping computer. When all the bills for a carrier have been printed, use them to determine the total piece count, then verify the load by performing a physical count of material on the trailer. After the piece count has been verified, record the time on the bill of lading. Repeat the process until all trailers have been released.

HOUSEKEEPING

Each associate is responsible for maintaining a clean and orderly facility.  Assignments will be given to associates to perform on a daily basis.  Housekeeping includes but is not limited to, sweeping the floors, keeping equipment free of debris, putting supplies in their proper place, straightening merchandise on shelves, throwing away trash and unusable pallets, putting scanners in designated areas, and organizing supplies.
