2012 Summer Positions
Project Forward Leap is committed to closing the gaps of academic achievement and developmental opportunities between academically promising, less advantaged children and their more advantaged peers. Accordingly, we are dedicated to the creation of optimal learning communities that enhance the chances of our students maximizing their academic and personal growth. PFL’s five-week residential summer program, which is held on local college campuses, is the mainstay of our learning communities and is unique to middle school students from Chester Upland, the Columbia Borough, Harrisburg, Lancaster, Philadelphia, Steelton Highspire and Susquenita school districts.
The 2012 Program Sites and Dates are listed below.
Staff Training: June 2, 2012 June 25-29, 2012
Each site consists of the following types of positions.
Availability of positions at each campus will vary.

Assistant Site Directors: Assist Site Directors in day-to-day operations. Must reside on campus, and participate in pre-summer meetings and hiring of summer staff. Three years of professional experience in teaching, administration and related educational work is minimally required. Bachelor's degree required.

Master Teachers: Responsible for mentoring, coaching, observation of teachers and teacher assistants, and the management of educational plans and materials for teachers and teacher assistants. They will work closely with other members of their base site to ensure that all of the instructional goals of the program are met. Bachelor’s minimum but preference will be given to candidates who hold higher degrees.

Teachers: English, Mathematics, Latin, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computers, Debate and Creative Expressions (Visual or Performing Arts), and P.R.I.D.E., a structured leadership and interpersonal skills course. Must attend pre-summer planning meetings. Bachelor’s degree and teaching experience required. Preference will be given to certified teachers.

Teacher Assistant: Assist Teachers in classroom. Must be a high school graduate, college student in good standing, or a college graduate. Must attend two pre-summer planning meetings.

Counselors: Provide individual and group counseling to students, and to lead or work closely with P.R.I.D.E. Must be available for duty on afternoons and early evenings. Preference will be given to certified counselors.

Wellness Coordinator: Responsible for tending to the health, nutritional and emotional needs of the students. Must work with the residential staff and assist with advising, counseling and crisis intervention within the residence hall; tend to minor medical needs that may arise; and teach students good nutritional values. Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in a medically-related field. Other certifications are not necessary but preferred. Preference will be given to those who are willing to reside on campus. Stipend varies depending upon credentials and experience.

Residential Instructor: Responsible for one section of students each (12-20). Along with an assistant, implement academic support program to assigned section, and possibly teach one period of a course in the Day Program. Must reside on campus and attend pre-summer planning Meetings. Teaching, counseling and certification will be given preference.

Residential Assistant: Assists Residential Instructor. Must be a college student in good standing or a college graduate. Must reside on campus and attend two pre-summer planning meetings.

After submitting your application, you will be contacted if we would like to interview you. Interviews for all summer positions will commence in March and will continue until all positions are filled. Interviews will be held in the Philadelphia, Lancaster, and Harrisburg areas.
