A vacancy has arisen for the role of the 3GPP RAN WG3 Standardisation Engineer based in Leatherhead, to contribute to the IPR and standardisation of NEC's LTE and LTE Advanced Macro solution.

The role requires the ability to think creatively and clearly about problems, generating and presenting possible solutions for review. Work is done within a ISO 9000 QA system where our client continually look for ways to improve quality and efficiency.

You must be a motivated person who is able to work pro-actively and with determination under minimum supervision, prioritising between tasks and managing their own time. Effective oral and written communication skills are required as well as an ability to work well as part of a team.

Availability to travel and be away for overseas meetings (approximately 4-6 times per year for up to 1 week) is required.

Our client is NEC Telecom MODUS Ltd, a UK based subsidiary of NEC Corporation of Japan. Based on the requirements of mobile operators in the areas of high speed packet and multi-cast services, they are developing technology to be used in 4th Generation (3GPP LTE and LTE Advanced) mobile telecommunications systems.

They have been developing technology for NEC's Radio Access Network since the earliest days of 3G UMTS and their output has found its way into many operators' networks in Japan and around the world. Their technical teams have a wealth of mobile network knowledge and experience and several NEC Telecom MODUS staff represent NEC on international standards bodies and industry forums.

The key responsibilities will be to:
* Identify the current and future requirements and features of the NEC LTE and LTE Advanced solution
* Develop network specifications and IPR to deliver the features required in NEC's LTE and LTE Advanced solution
* Prepare internal technical investigation reports and presentations
* Prepare IPR submissions and 3GPP meeting contribution documents
* Attend 3GPP RAN WG3 (and other WGs as required) and present own and other NEC contributions
* Analyse and report on the contributions submitted by other delegates into RAN WG3 (and other WGs as required)
* Prepare 3GPP meeting reports and de-brief NEC internal teams
* Follow LTE Macro and Femtocell developments in other 3GPP WG
* Support other engineering and customer facing teams on topics related to 3GPP standardisation eg for reviews, technical sales or trouble shooting
* Participate in the brainstorming sessions for patents idea generation in the 3GPP Macro and Femtocell domain
* Review and provide comments on NEC patents and standards contributions
* Learn about and keep abreast of the latest developments in mobile systems technology and related protocols
* Complete all Projects/Work Packages to schedule and to the requisite standard
* Report progress to the Architecture Specification Group Manager to ensure all key deliverables are successfully completed on time and to budget

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
The successful candidate will have:
* Excellent knowledge of 3GPP UMTS, LTE and LTE Advanced Specifications and functionality
* Excellent knowledge of LTE and LTE Advanced architectures
* Experience of attending 3GPP meetings and 3GPP procedures
* Experience of preparing documents for 3GPP standardisation
* Experience of preparing and filing IPRs
* Good knowledge of OFDM related terminology/technology

CAPABILITIES:
The ideal candidates will bring to the team deep knowledge of LTE and LTE Advanced Macro systems specifications as well as a background in UMTS or other radio or wired network telecoms technology.
The role will involve representing NEC Telecom MODUS and as such a common sense and logical approach to problem resolution is required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Good honours degree or higher in Communications, Electronics, Physics, Computing or Maths.

There is a competitive salary on offer, depending on experience and previous achievements.
