Position Purpose:

The RBC Dominion Securities branch located in downtown Toronto is looking for an Associate Advisor to join a successful and well-established Investment Advisor and team to assist in the management and growth of their domestic and international client base.  The ideal candidate should have at least 3-5 years experience in the investment field working as either an Investment Advisor or an Associate Advisor with an experienced background in portfolio management.

This position requires the individual to be fully IIROC licensed as a Registered Representative (RR) and the individual must be fluent (both written and communication) in both English and Spanish.

Key Accountabilities: 

(1) Client Service / Relationship Management:

- Work with IA to develop and execute a relationship management plan to maintain and grow high-net worth international client asset base

- Ongoing involvement and scheduling in the review of business plans, client segmentation and client service plan for overall existing client base

- Input and follow-up on client orders as directed by IA

- Ensure client inquires and any problems are responded to in a timely manner and that all activity is recorded in a contact management system

(2) Proposal Generation:

- Create client proposals and portfolio reviews for new and existing clients on a ongoing basis

- Develop asset allocation targets for client portfolios and refer to IA for feedback / execution

- Assist in the creation of formal client investment policy statement and performance metrics

- Review and monitor client accounts on a daily basis including MRGD account review and other reports such as Maturing Issues for investment opportunities

- Work closely with IA to ensure the efficient, accurate and complete communication of investment recommendations to clients

(3) Research Analysis:

- Independently conduct research analysis of industry sectors and individual companies, focusing on business factors such as financial performance, competitive position, quality of company management, etc.

- Generate trading ideas for client portfolios to leverage market opportunities including hedging and currency overlays if necessary

- Research mutual funds and money managers

- Monitor investment compliance and assist in the preparation of investment commentaries.

(4) Business Management:

- Responsible for management of qualifying prospects, referrals and other opportunities

- Oversight over creation of marketing materials for meetings with prospects and clients

- Ability to develop relationships with internal partners and external COIs to grow referral network

- Support team in presenting international investment offering to GTA retail bank branches to build prospect funnel

(5) Administrative:

- Investigate and resolve inquiries and complaints related to accounts and refer to the IA or IA team members where appropriate

- Follow-up on client trades to ensure proper settlement and delivery

- Maintain current knowledge of client accounts by reviewing daily activity online and on applicable reports

- Support team to maintain client files and to ensure clients? accurate and timely completion of all necessary documentation

- Conduct any market and/or investment research related to client inquiries

(6) Position Challenges / Restrictions:

- Cannot make recommendations to buy, sell or switch securities unless directed / approved by IA

Knowledge/Experience:

- Must be fluent (both written and communication) in both English and Spanish

- Must have 3- 5 years experience within the investment industry with an experienced background in portfolio management

- Completion of Canadian Securities Course (CSC) and Conduct Practice Handbook (CPH) is required at a minimum.  Expectation that individual will be or is already licensed as Registered Representative (RR) with Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC).  Options license is an asset.

- CFA Level 2 candidate

- Strong ability to provide investment recommendations with an excellent understanding of  various assets classes, wealth management solutions and international markets

- Superior communication and presentation skills

- Must be able to function well within a team environment

- Ability to deal with varying personalities with internal and external clients

- Exceptional time management skills with the ability to multi-task

- Exceptional attention to detail

- Strong knowledge of brokerage operations, systems, policies and procedures including, but not limited to, client accounts, order entry and internal control policies

- Strong proficiency in Bloomberg and Microsoft Office applications including Excel Skills
