Under the supervision of a group manager and/or chemist, the technician carries out the laboratory, pilot plant, specification testing and computer work associated with any of the following: product development, formulation development, product line support, and technical service for a variety of products.

Responsibilities:
1) Prepares materials for various tests, including the assembly of bonded test panels.
2) Makes lab product batches per standard practices.
3) Operates ovens, presses and autoclaves for processing adhesives and bonded test assemblies.
4) Prepares test coupons using band saws, mills and other machining equipment.
5) Reads and uses dial calipers, micrometers and standard shop measuring tools.
6) Sets up, calibrates, operate, monitors and troubleshoots lab instruments and/or testing equipment.
7) Applies basic lab techniques to perform routine and non-routine tests with limited direct supervision. Collects and analyzes data.
8) Enters accurate data in lab notebooks, computer databases, and test reports. Ability to understand and perform mathematical and statistical functions. Prepare data reports, graphs, and charts on results as requested.

Requirements:
* Able to work with and around hazardous materials, chemicals, and equipment. Able to use a respirator.
* While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
* The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands tools or controls.
* The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
* The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
* Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
* A minimum of 3 years experience as a Lab Assistant is required. This requirement may be reduced or waived with higher education in chemistry or related industry or technology experience.
* Significant experience and proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
* Demonstrated proficiency at routine mathematics, which includes addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and basic algebra.
* Excellent track record of operating lab equipment and maintaining daily records for work performed.
* Must work efficiently and within established time frames and effectively function within a team environment and demonstrate leadership abilities.
* Excellent communication, analytical, and follow through skills.
* Be available for rotating shifts.
