Academic Advisor Transfer and Career Counselor
Columbia-Greene Community College, part of the SUNY system, and a comprehensive community college consisting of over 2000 students, is actively searching for an Academic Advisor Transfer and Career Counselor. The full-time, tenure track faculty advisor is responsible to the vice-president and dean of academic affairs and follows a non-teaching, contractual agreement for cooperative scheduling.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to the following: Provide academic, transfer, and career counseling; assist advisees in establishing appropriate course schedules based on college requirements, transfer plans, interests and abilities, and academic and career goals; integrate career development concepts and strategies into the developmental advising process; participate in the planning, implementation, and assessment of the academic advising unit; administer and interpret vocational and personality assessment instruments; provide students with information about alternatives, limitations, and possible consequences of academic decisions (e.g. adding, dropping or withdrawing from classes; change of program, and or transfer institution; financial aid implications); consult with contacts from various transfer institutions regarding course and program transferability, admissions, and graduation requirements; plan and present transfer, career and academic oriented workshops; participate in new student orientation program; counsel students with personal issues that may impact academic progress and serve as a referral agent when appropriate; teach college success skills in conjunction with Academic Support Center; actively participate in departmental activities and college committees and a member of the Academic Advising Team, Behavioral and Social Sciences Division and Curriculum Committee.
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
Required:
• Master’s Degree in counseling from an accredited college or university required.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and cooperatively as a team member.
• Excellent organizational and computer skills.
Preferred:
• Two years of experience counseling at the community college level.
• Knowledge of college programs and support services.
• National Certified Counselor.
Starting contractual salary $40k and will commensurate with experience. Excellent fringe benefits.
