Academic Application Developer

Office for Information Technology (OIT)

The Office for Information Technology has an opening for an Academic Application Developer. This position supports and leads the use of current and emerging technology in the teaching and scholarly work of the faculty, including the development of academic software and technology tools, and the management and distribution of digital assets such as images and video. S/he researches, prototypes, implements, and maintains applications, services and procedures that enable the adoption and utilization of technology in support of the academic mission of the College. Working within the Instructional Technology group, s/he assists faculty and staff in exploring ideas that will enhance teaching, learning, and scholarly work by researching and piloting commercial products, and by designing and implementing custom solutions.

Candidates should have at least a Bachelor's degree, advanced degree preferred, and a solid working knowledge of the full range of web technologies - from server configuration through page layout (e.g. LAMP stack or Rails framework, plus HTML and JavaScript). Experience with creating applications for the web, developing databases, programming, and managing projects is required. Experience managing video and other digital assets is highly desirable, as is experience with specialized web tools such as jQuery, HTML5, and ActionScript hr@williams.edu
