Job Duties:   

The position assumes delegated authority from the Department Chair. The department administrator is responsible for administering the day-to-day operations of the department and managing academic and administrative responsibilities of the department in such a manner as to allow the Chair to focus on high priority professional academic and research matters.  This position is responsible for ensuring the departmental needs are met in the following areas:  personnel and payroll (recruitment, hiring, contracting, retention, promotion, tenure, merit, dismissal, etc);  financial, purchasing, and information technology administration;  strategic planning;  budget management and forecasting;  record maintenance;  safety and risk management;  international and student issues, including visas; and the interpretation and implementation of policies and procedures.  This position is responsible for continually evaluating operations procedures/processes and plays a major role in complex problem solving. It should be noted that the Biochemistry Department has a complex information technology infrastructure and their position is responsible for overseeing that infrastructure ensuring it is maintained, secured and continuously improved.

Knowledge of information sources required for research, instructional, administrative, and fiscal information; knowledge of data collection and analysis, methods, and techniques; knowledge of fiscal procedures, financial and budget concepts and processes; knowledge of supervisory techniques, record keeping practices, web applications, database systems, modern office methods and procedures, and correct grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure in written work.
