This position maintains Central’s integrity with it’s customers by ensuring that freight tendered to Central is picked up and delivered in a timely manner; supervises schedulers and local drivers; requires regularly scheduled weekend work.
Essential Functions
1. Uses Windows computer program to book customer loads by phone, EDI, or e-mail and ensures that all information for freight tendered to Central is complete and accurately entered into the computer.
2. Interacts with customers over the telephone, fax, or by e-mail to schedule appointments for load pick-up and delivery.
3. Ensures that pick-up and delivery times are accurately entered into the computer.
4. Ensures that scheduled pick-up and delivery times allow the driver to comply with DOT rules and regulations.
5. Monitors all loads in transit for assigned regional customers regardless of load destination.
6. Follows up on load inquiries by checking computer for delivery information. Works closely with the shipper and consignee regarding pick-up and delivery appointments and any problems that might affect appointment times.
7. Assists sales and marketing in securing freight within the assigned regional area with rate pre-approval from the Rate Department. Also, checks with Billing Department concerning credit status of customer when rush orders are received.
8. Achieves and maintains rapport with customers and works to give them the best possible on-time service.
9. Handles customer complaints/problems in a professional manner.
10. Sometimes supervises local and/or dedicated drivers in an assigned region.
11. Interacts with other customer service personnel (i.e., schedulers, and load planners) to expedite trucks and freight in the most cost-effective and efficient manner possible.
12. Interacts with fleet managers and drivers to ensure quality, on-time customer service within the region.
13. Interacts with OS D to resolve customers’ claims.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
1. Helps other customer service personnel schedule appointments, track loads, and plan loads when necessary.
2. May supervise local and/or dedicated drivers and dispatch loads to them.
4. Other related duties as assigned.
Job Specifications
Education Requires high school diploma or equivalent.
Skills Requires excellent problem solving skills; good written and oral communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills; excellent customer service skills; good computer skills.
Mental Demands Requires knowledge of United States and Canadian geography; the ability to understand and apply DOT regulations as well as other relevant state and federal statutes and regulations; the ability to handle many tasks simultaneously; and the ability to perform under highly stressful conditions.
Physical Demands Requires ability to use office equipment, such as phones, computers, copiers, and fax machines and the ability to perform essential duties and responsibilities efficiently, accurately and safely with or without reasonable accommodation and without posing threat of harm to self or others.
