Accountant

Perform professional work requiring intermediate use and application of concepts, theories, principles, practices, and terminology of accounting. Analyze data and prepare financial statements and reports for internal and external purposes consistent with a broad understanding of the Institutional mission and vision, the role and goals of the business unit and the tasks and responsibilities of the Accountant in the achievement of institutional and business unit goals. Guidelines and procedures are generally well established and an intermediate level of professional judgment is required. Preferred Education, Skills, and Experiences: Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or similar discipline Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) 3+ years of accounting experience Certified Public Accountants, preferred Key Functions and Expected Performances: Evaluate alternative treatment of transactions and recommend proper course of action; analyze effects of transactions upon account relationships use an intermediate knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles use a basic understanding of the overall financial performance, related transactions and reporting requirements of the business unit Verify proper recording of individual transactions or groups of transactions using exception reports use an intermediate knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles according to external requirements according to University policies and procedures Approve and verify transactions in various financial systems approve and verify transactions as authorized use an intermediate application of concepts, theories, principles, practices, and terminology of accounting Complete and maintain accounting reconciliations of transactions and accounts; create centers able to prepare complex entries in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and other applicable regulations complete the reconciliations according to the Financial Management accounting calendar for each entity according to University policies and procedures May supervise lower level accounting personnel and clerks. Use strong oral communication skills Use strong organizational skills Accumulate, analyze, and summarize routine, detailed data in order to prepare financial reports and schedules in accordance with defined guidelines and procedures consistent with a broad understanding of the Institutional mission and vision, the role and goals of the business unit and the tasks and responsibilities of the Staff Accountant in the achievement of institutional and business unit goals interpret and apply guidelines and procedures Format, design, and prepare financial reports and schedules able to provide both basic and intermediate reports and schedules consistent with Financial Management formatting standards in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles in accordance with University policies and procedures Additional Information: This is a full-time, exempt position. The position is typically Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. unless otherwise dictated by business needs.
