- Perform various accounting activities, including more complex reconciliation and analysis of general ledger accounts with higher volumes of transactions
- Manage the daily cash control audit, confirming all wires processed by Ernst Young's bank(s) are accurate and complete. Research any variances, and report these for immediate resolution
- May review and help with the following activities in accordance with firm policy/procedures: establishing separated employee loans; creating loan amortization schedule; collection of past due balances
- Review payroll statutory tax filings, to verify payroll tax liabilities and/or receivables
- Perform complex ad hoc research and analysis of various accounting transactions, including sub-systems
- Identify and communicate processing, internal control weaknesses, and/or accounting issues, and help resolve
- Contribute to large special projects, and/or own smaller projects/initiatives, as requested
- Thoroughly understand and apply firm policies and procedures, when analyzing accounting transactions and/or general ledger accounts. For example, when reviewing payroll withholdings, apply sound business judgment to determine whether the withholdings agree with statutory tax filings
- Utilize advanced knowledge and available resources, to make independent judgments on the appropriateness of accounting transactions. This includes firm tools (e.g., Global Financial Information System (GFIS), business objects, accounts payable, invoice workflow applications, global time and expense (gTE), Global Shared Services (GSS), InfoWeb, ad hoc reports). This also includes external resources (e.g., General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), bank websites, third party payroll websites).
- Demonstrates healthy skepticism when analyzing more complex accounting transactions. For example, when completing the Wageworks payroll withholding account reconciliation, determine whether transactions are properly classified as a liability, in accordance with firm policy, Internal Revenue Services (IRS) guidelines, and the third party guidelines/agreement
- Challenge existing processes and approaches to operational efficiency, effectiveness, internal controls, and/or customer service. Recommend viable ways to improve
- Identify problems with processes, technology, and/or procedures, and develop a recommended resolution, as appropriate
- Resolve confidential and general accounting issues with limited supervision, consistent with established policies and procedures
- Prioritize your own assignments, follow through on commitments, and take ownership for personal and/or team results
- Gain advanced knowledge of Ernst Young's business, firm structure and policies and financial applications (e.g., GFIS, PeopleSoft, gTE, business objects, Microsoft applications)
- May review the daily work of less experienced staff and provide feedback, as appropriate
- May train less experienced staff, as directed
- English language skills - outstanding written and verbal communication.
- Ability to utilize advanced analytical skills and ability, to apply sound business judgment to individual and team assignments
- Competent at understanding firm communications, announcements, and other change management initiatives, and relating these to core accounting procedures. skilled at incorporating these changes into the accounting policies and procedures
- Demonstrated positive attitude and approach, with a willingness to accept new challenges, and flexibility to change
- Proven commitment to delivering quality work, with a willingness to team with others, and help create a positive work environment
- A minimum of 3-6 years of progressive related accounting, finance, or related experience
- General ledger experience
- PeopleSoft accounting and payroll experience preferred
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience
