Accounting Manager
Accounting Managers manage the activities of general accounting functions, developing, implementing and maintaining systems, procedures and policies to ensure the maintenance of the general ledger in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and for the production of various financial statements, analyses and reports. Possesses and applies a broad expertise or unique knowledge of principles, practices and procedures to contribute to the development of company objectives and principles.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Receives assignments in the form of objectives and determines how to use resources to meet schedules and goals.
* Provides guidance to subordinate associates within the latitude of established policies, develops and administers schedules and performance requirements for own organization.
* Helps formulate and administers approved accounting practices throughout the organization to ensure that financial and operating reports accurately reflect the condition of the business in accordance with GAAP and provide reliable information necessary to control operations.
* Interacts with functional peers and/or other company and parent company management involving matters between functional areas or other company divisions.
* Participates in the most complex and unique accounting projects resolving a wide range of issues in imaginative as well as practical ways.
* Respond to complex financial inquiries of executive management providing requested information for use in effective management of the business.
* Conceptualize and oversee development of new analyses and reports providing insight to business trends and opportunities for improvement. Leads and develops subordinates.
* Acts as member of company and department leadership team.
* Acts as a liaison between the company, government, auditors and other stake holders providing information and ensuring that proper information is maintained for historical purposes.
A Manager, Accounting may be assigned to in the Intercarrier Services, Assistant Controller, Operations Accounting and External Reporting departments. Specific responsibilities will vary depending upon which department they are assigned.
Responsibility and Decision Making:
Works on issues of diverse scope where analysis of situation or data requires evaluation of a variety of factors, including an understanding of current business trends. Manages the coordination of the activities of the function with responsibility for results, costs, methods and staffing. Interprets and applies GAAP, organizational and company policy. Develops subordinates with a variety of skill and professional experience levels. REQUIREMENTS:
* Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA or MBA preferred
* Eight plus years of broad accounting experience with two - four years in supervision preferred
* In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, practices and procedures. General knowledge of financial concepts required
* Broad experience and knowledge in all areas of Accounting/ Finance
* Strong PC literacy skills in a Windows environment with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Access and Word)
* Strong verbal and written communication skills
* Ability to communicate with all levels of management and associates.
* Working knowledge of computer software, general ledger and financial systems.
