Accounting Manager

 

 

Purpose

 

The successful candidate for this multi-channel retailer needs to be a team player with strong accounting and managerial skills, combined with a strong systems aptitude.  The Accounting Manager is responsible for all areas relating to financial reporting. This position is responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. The Accounting Manager supervises five staff and is responsible for managing the team to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner.

 

This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including monthly closing activities, financial reporting and analysis, audit preparation, and the support of budget and forecast activities. Additionally, this position is responsible for maintaining a strong internal control structure, implementing new systems, and identifying and implementing cost savings and automation opportunities.  The Accounting Manager will have contact with all levels of senior management as well as key contacts outside of the Company, which requires strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.

 

Responsibilities Duties

 

·         Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure

·         Ensure an accurate and timely monthly and year-end close, including the timely reporting of all financial information

·         Serve as a true partner to the store operations, marketing and merchandising areas by providing timely financial analysis and information that allows them to effectively run their businesses

·         Analyze costs, identify opportunities for reducing them, and assist with negotiating and implementing the necessary changes to achieve these reductions

·         Ensure daily and monthly bank compliance activities are performed in a timely and accurate manner.

·         Establish and maintain policies and procedures to ensure compliance with state and local regulations (i.e. sales tax, licensing, etc.)

·         Support budget and forecasting activities

·         Work with the Controller to ensure a clean and timely year-end audit

·         Manage and assist with special projects and workflow process improvements

·         Collaborate with the other department managers to support overall company goals

·         Monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.

·         Handle personnel issues relating to staff conflicts, performance issues, etc.

·         Work with each direct report to establish goals and objectives, and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff

·         Provide training to new and existing staff as needed.

 

 

Qualifications

Ideal candidates must be a CPA and possess a bachelor’s degree in Accounting with 5-7 years of supervisory experience in the general ledger / financial reporting area.  The ability to work closely with teams in marketing, merchandising and operations is critical.

·         Impeccably organized and Innovative

·         Strong computer and Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint).  Experience with Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains a plus

·         Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines required
