Accounting Manager
In this role you report directly to the Corporate Controller of Booking.com in the Amsterdam head office.
You will be responsible for the monthly financial closing of Booking.com’s US and Canada entities from start to finish. You will be based in New York City.
You will work closely together with your fellow Controllers and the other members of the international Finance team.
The role involves interaction with our international offices, business managers, functional teams and other finance colleagues. Therefore it is essential that you have excellent management and communication skills.
You will be co-responsible for the day-to-day general ledger, accounting systems, internal management reporting and administrative processes. You will also be responsible for producing regular reports to our parent company Priceline.com Inc. (NASDAQ: PCLN) in the United States in accordance with US GAAP/SEC reporting and Sarbanes-Oxley 404 compliance.
Due to the rapid and continuous growth of the organization, the tasks and duties of this role may evolve over time. You will be keen to develop and grow within the role and to take on additional challenges and responsibilities as they occur.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensuring month end accounts are accurate and timely together with detailed supporting analysis, preparation of monthly closing binder and proactive communication of potential issues to the Corporate Controller;
- Leading and inspiring the US Accounting team (2-3 FTE team members);
- Reviewing and preparing journal entries and general ledger reconciliations including debtor provisions, intercompany balances, foreign exchange items, tax accounting, stock compensation, equity movements and consolidation entries, and reporting significant exceptions to Corporate Controller;
- Balance sheet and profit and loss review of Booking.com’s Northern American entities;
- Perform ad hoc financial analysis and technical research for the Corporate Controller;
- Report monthly, quarterly and annual financial information plus providing of ad hoc information or data request to corporate US office through Hyperion (Oracle).
- Keeping up to date on all significant technical and international matters in accounting, tax and reporting, liaising with Priceline.com Finance team on policy matters and ensuring accounts comply to Priceline.com accounting policies (US GAAP);
- Working with the Priceline.com Finance Team, ensure proactive consideration of SEC reporting and Sarbanes-Oxley 404 requirements;
- Co-coordinating work with Deloitte Touche in relation to external audits and with Internal Audit/Sarbanes-Oxley 404 teams;
- Co-ensure all procedures and controls within the Finance department are, and remain, SOX compliant and meet Internal Audit requirements;
- Working closely with the Accounting Team to ensure team objectives are met;
- Liaison with the Manager Financial Planning Analysis, ensure strong budgetary cost controls and reporting;
- Drive/lead projects with purpose to increase efficiency (automation) and improve quality of accounting ;
- Ad Hoc projects.

- Knowledge of tax (desirable)
- Knowledge of (implementing) ERP systems (SAP desirable) and Hyperion (Oracle);
- Knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley 404 (desirable);
- Drive to make Finance integral part of the business
- Team-player;
- Accurate, able to work under pressure and to strict deadlines, and comfortable working in a quick turnaround environment;
- Ability to be an organized and proactive deliverer of results or a motivating manager/coach as and when circumstances dictate;
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) in English;
- Experience in working in international environments / with more cultures is a pre
- Ability to have good grasp of the detail whilst understanding the “big picture”, and to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously;
- Willingness to travel occasionally.
Required Experience
- Bachelors and/or Masters degree;
- Working experience in an international environment;
- 3-5 years experience in (international) consolidation and management reporting;
- maximum of 3 years of management/leadership experience;
- Experience with managing a team
