Amsted Rail, Inc. is currently looking for an Accounting Supervisor at its Kansas City, Kansas wheel manufacturing plant.  The incumbent must have basic technical or specialized skills in involved practices, procedures and accounting principles.  Works with high level of specific activity with well defined objectives.  The incumbent will supervise and participate in the timely, accurate and cost-effective preparation of statistical and financial reports to provide a sound basis for management decisions.

This position will report to the Plant Controller.  Reporting to the Accounting Supervisor are various accounting office support positions.  The Accounting Supervisor is accountable for the work performance of his/her staff.  To direct and ensure that employees are aware of their duties; the incumbent must be able to communicate effectively in an effort to maintain high morale,motivation and productivity.

The incumbent supervises the general accounting function, payroll, data processing, and insurance procedures.  He/She prepares the weekly shipping, product inventory, and casting schedules for the plant, calculates the fixed assets and finished product inventories along with numerous statistical reports, develops manufacturing cost studies; researches projects as requested.

The accounting Supervisor administers the group life insurance program, health and accident insurance, and retirement programs; processes documents necessary for the implementation of various benefits programs and maintains necessary records.

The effectiveness of this position is measured by the timely, accurate and cost effective preparation of statistical and financial reports.

  1. Supervise the timely, accurate and cost-effective preparation of statistical and financial reports to provide a sound basis for management decisions.
  2. Coordinate and control the accounting functions to comply with generally accepted accounting practices and Company policies.
  3. Assure that financial transactions are conducted in a manner to provide maximum benefit for the Company.
  4. Administer Company benefit program and process necessary documents for timely implementation of program.
  5. Select, develop and motivate a compentent staff to assure attainment of department, plant and Company objectives.
  6. May assume duties of Plant Controller in his/her absence.
  7. Supervise the scheuling, shipping and billing of products according to instructions from the Sales department.
