Accounting Supervisor recruitment
Vanguard, one of the world's largest investment management companies and a recognized employer of choice, seeks an accounting supervisor to supervise the accounting staff responsible for the production of accurate accounting information for the Vanguard Group, Inc., including domestic and international subsidiaries. Accounting information produced by the team is used for internal accounting, external regulatory reporting, and tax reporting. You will maintain effective internal controls and to work closely with the entities to optimize efficiency of corporate accounting processes.
Your primary duties and responsibilities:
- Supervises staff. Provides guidance, training, and motivation as necessary to develop staff. Sets performance standards, reviews performance, provides feedback and recommends wage increases/adjustments in accordance with the applicable HR policies and procedures. Provides the opportunity for crew to learn new processes and develop new skills. Mentors and coaches crew members. Discusses career objectives and provides direction and career counseling. Holds one-on-one meetings.
- Assesses current department procedures and propose/implement changes to strengthen internal control, enhances efficiency and maximizes the usage of the financial accounting system. Considers impact of procedural changes on Corporate Accounting and Reporting and the International entities. Manages to established department metrics and performance measures using VUE and six sigma methodologies.
- Oversees the production of accurate accounting information for assigned entities. Oversees the variance analysis for entities for internal control purposes and for board reporting. Ensures compliance with Accounting Standards and Corporate policies. Independently identifies and resolves issues prior to managerial review. Ensures that all reconciliations (included but not limited to Balance Sheet, inter-company and fixed assets) are completed and receive appropriate managerial review.
- Works with Corporate Accounting and Reporting to ensure that all consolidation activity occurs accurately. Responsibility for the management of the transfer pricing process. Manages the translation process for International entity reporting in both local currency and US dollars. Works with the tax department to ensure appropriate accounting treatment for tax liabilities.
- Establishes and maintains relationships with assigned internal clients and business units, assuming role of primary department contact. Coordinates any transactions from these business units that need to be recorded, including researching and documenting proper accounting treatment for unusual transactions. Works with these internal clients to identify opportunities for improvements and implement procedural changes, as needed.
- Works with external auditors during annual audits of entities. Manage all assigned responsibilities by the dates established in Audit plan. Works with the business on any regulatory filings required financial input.
- Develops and maintains an understanding of legal and accounting relationships between the Vanguard Group, Inc. and subsidiaries, relationships and agreements between subsidiaries, and relationships and agreements between the Vanguard Group, Inc. and the Funds; and Vanguard's business units and other areas in Corporate Financial Services.
- Documents and/or updates existing documentation for all processes, procedures and work flows to ensure up-to-date and accurate resources are available to assist new and existing staff.
- Promotes a team atmosphere in the department and Vanguard as a whole. Fosters a 'one Vanguard' attitude. Encourages crew to provide ideas and feedback. Maintains a refined and professional demeanor in all internal and external interactions.
- Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate should possess:
- Undergraduate degree (in accounting or finance preferred) or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Three to five years related financial accounting experience preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, general ledger account analysis and reconciliation.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical skills.
- International experience preferred.
- Previous supervisory experience preferred.
- Accounting software and spreadsheet software experience.
