Activity Director - Adult Day Care

The Activity Director position at our multi-cultural Adult Medical Day Care is a very high priority and is responsible for leading the programs and activities that enrich the lives of our clients. Responsibilities
The Activity Director is responsible for creating plans and implementing a vital program of activities that stimulates participants cognitively, culturally, creatively, psychologically, spiritually and physically, and promotes individual and group interaction for pleasure and social interaction.
Essential functions include, but are not limited to:
i Directly supervises the Activity Assistants and volunteers. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination and operation of the Activity Department.
i Adapts an activity program which takes into consideration the age, gender, physical and mental capabilities, interests and the cultural and social background of the participant.
i Schedules recreational activities in the community and coordinates transportation with the Transportation Director
i Handles documentation as required by regulation (including quarterly assessment) and maintains records of activity schedules for each shift and each language.
i Develops, organizes and implements the activity calendar one month in advance.
i Organizes and assists at the monthly council meeting. Encourages participants to present their concerns during the meeting. Records and maintain minutes. Make sure previous concerns are identified, resolved and addressed at the next meeting. Keeps all records of resolution
i Coordinates/oversees the clients’ appointments with health care services and provides assistance as needed
i Participates in ongoing process of Quality Improvement
i Recruits, trains, and supervises all volunteers and visiting community groups who come to the facility. Maintains a Volunteer Log and Volunteer Applications within a Volunteer Program
i Ensure proper documentation of all activities in accordance with Federal, State, and Local requirements
Qualifications
- NCCAP Certification or equivalent. Alternately, certified or eligible for certification as a certified therapeutic recreation specialist (CTRS) by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation. Alternate #2, have a baccalaureate degree from a college or university approved by a state department of education with a major in recreation, creative arts therapy, music therapy, therapeutic recreation, art, art education, psychology, sociology, occupational therapy, or other health and/or human services related degree such as gerontology or early education
- Minimum of one (1) year experience in Adult Day Care, Assisted Living, or LTC
- Ability to communicate successfully with clients, vendors, and team members. Fluent in English
- Must meet all health requirements including TB
- Must have compassion for and desire to work with seniors.
- Computer literate.
- To be successful you will need to have the ability to handle multiple priorities, possess written and verbal skills for effective communication, be competent in organizational, time management skills and demonstrate good judgment, problem solving and decision making skills.
