position summary

Responsible for serving as an expert in data and business analysis, reporting and formulating recommendations and providing guidance to the business owners. Primary duties may include, but are not limited to: standardizing a robust group reporting package and analyzing the drivers of claim cost increase.  Analyzes data and summarizes performance using summary statistical procedures. Develops and analyzes business performance reports and provides notations of performance deviations and anomalies. Creates, publishes, and analyzes reports and makes recommendations as necessary. May make recommendations based upon data analysis. Provides analytic consultation to other business areas, leadership or external customers. Data analysis and reporting encompasses high level of complexity.


Primary duties and Responsibilities

The Actuarial Analyst II is responsible for the following:

·       Analysis of drivers of claims cost increases

·       Standardized group reporting package

·       Supporting the network contracting team in analysis of expected cost changes due to changes in contracting

·       Assisting in the development and execution of the organization’s business intelligence strategy

·       Respond to ad-hoc requests from internal and external customers


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

·       Understanding of the how a health insurance company operates

·       Ability to gather and analyze statistical data and generate reports.

·       Ability to design and implement systems necessary to collect, maintain, and analyze data.

·       Ability to prepare research reports and proposals.

·       Ability to utilize statistical computer software.

·       Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.

·       Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.


Education and Experience

BS/BA degree in related field plus two years experience or any combination of education and experience to be relevant. The Actuarial Analyst II position is required to have passed two exams from the Society of Actuaries.  Experience in Cognos, Microsoft Office, and standard query and reporting tools helpful. Must have strong analytical, organizational, presentation and problem solving skills. This position will be given access to and held to the standards of the QualChoice Actuarial Study Program which requires passing of Actuarial exams from the Society of Actuaries.
