The Administrative Manager for Research, reporting to the Administrative Director of Anesthesia Research (AD), is responsible for the post-award management of the department’s research funds consisting of approximately 180 funds and roughly 20 million dollars per year in expenses. These responsibilities include monthly analysis of the department’s research funds which include NIH and foundation grants, clinical trial and industry agreements, Harvard Exchange accounts and sundry funds under the direction of the Research AD.

Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in business, accounting or finance.
5 years experience in research administration or other related experience.

Must be detail oriented, analytical and a self-starter. Must be able to work independently, be flexible, responsible, able to handle multiple tasks and prioritize work, and have the ability to work under tight deadlines. This position requires the ability to follow through on items to ensure timely completion of tasks.

The ability to handle confidential and sensitive information related to salaries, department finance and science is a must.

Skill in negotiations and diplomacy with diverse constituencies both inside and outside of the organization.

The ability to interpret complex federal, private and industrial sponsor regulations.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Must be proficient in MS Excel and Word. Database experience would be helpful, but not necessary. The ability to learn new software programs quickly is also essential.

Knowledge of NIH grants necessary.
