Position Description:
This academic advisor position supports undergraduate students from a developmental advising approach, educates students in a flexible and creative learning environment, and is an active participant in collaborating with students, faculty and staff to promote academic success. The academic advising office reinforces the goals of WPI, in providing an "education (that) encompasses continuous striving for excellence coupled with an examination of the contexts of learning so that knowledge is won not only for its own sake but also for the sake of the human community of which the people of WPI are part". This position is an integral member of the advising office, by helping students identify resources to support them in their academic, career, and personal goals as they interactively engage in the local and global environment.

Responsibilities include:
-Assesses student's stage of development (academic, career, and personal) and promotes student growth by determining suitable developmental goals and tasks. Assists students in developing decision making skills relevant to educational options and possible outcomes.
-Recruits, trains and supervises peer tutors and M*A*S*H leaders. Researches and promotes professional development opportunities for peer tutors. Will establish and maintain a tutor certification program.
-Supports academically at-risk students, including students who are not making satisfactory academic progress. Provides individual coaching sessions for students based on an evaluation of the student's academic and personal background.
-Coordinates the Insight Wellness program as part of WPI's first-year advising program.
-Coordinates the Summer Bridge program, designed to assist students in developing and implementing successful academic strategies.
-Teaches Time Management and Study Skills workshops. Will establish a reading and note-taking course to support first-year student's academic transition.
-Provides options for students pertaining to course selection. Connects students with faculty advisors and resources.
- Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:
-A Master's degree preferred. One to two years' experience in academic advising and /or student development at the college level required.
-An ability to communicate with students, faculty, and parents a must; needs to be able to handle sensitive situations with confidentiality.
-Must be comfortable in a technological based educational environment.
-Ability to work in a team centered and collaborative environment.
-Demonstrated ability to communicate well orally and in writing and work effectively with diverse populations.
